To prevent various lifestyle-caused diseases, mental health care in daily life is one of the most important issues in recent years. This paper proposes quantitative analysis method of mental stress using heart rate variability (HRV). Concretely speaking, we proposed the geometric figure analytical method of HRV in consideration for respiration sinus arrhythmia (RSA). Then mental stress is quantitative evaluated by analyzing the characteristic of its plots. Experiments were repeated 51 times on 3 healthy male volunteers. The proposed method was confirmed efficiently, because of the measurement time is about half and the measurement dispersion is decreased in comparison with the conventional analysis methods.

Non-Invasive Blood Pressure Monitor(NIBP)is widely used in the clinical fields, as one of the most important vital sign monitors. Monitoring of blood pressure will suffer from the body movement of patients by spontaneity or medical treatments. Further more these devices utilize pulsation caused by the heartbeats cannot work in case of weak heartbeats. This study has given an answer to the above problems by using 6, 000 data taken from NIBP devices in the clinical fields.

本論文では,精神作業と音環境が脳電気活動に与える影響を評価するために,不快音/快音を聴きながら精神作業課題を遂行したときの脳波の振幅変化を調べた.α波の振幅は音刺激(5KHz 単音とパッヘルベルのカノン)を聴いたり,精神作業課題(暗算と記憶)遂行したり,あるいは両方を行ったときに,安静時のα波の振幅に比べて約15∼20%減少した.そのような振幅抑制は,α波の時間的位相揺らぎの15∼30%の増加と対応していた.特に,低域周波数のα波の振幅の低減割合は,組合せストレス,すなわち暗算と不快な5KHz音の条件下で25%に達するが,暗算単独で行ったときや5KHz単音単独で聴取した場合には15.20%の低減率に留まる.一方,β波とγ波の振幅はほとんどのストレス条件下で有意な変化を示さなかった.この結果は,音と精神ストレスが低域α波を抑制しており,ストレス計測において考慮されるべき点であることを示している.

Over the past several decades, numerous research studies have performed to establish biological mechanism of stress response, the role of levels of psychological stress and stress-related biomarkers, and the effect of stress relief supplements. However, most stress experiments to date have been focused on acute psychological stress. Increasing attention has been recently given to the evaluation and control/prevention of chronic psychological stress. In this paper, frontiers of psychological stress research in pharmaceutical fields of immunology, cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, and pharmacology are introduced. Neurobiological mechanisms underlying chronic psychological stress and prospective stress-realted biomarkers for chronic stress are reviewed. Furtheremore, particular attention has been briefly given to the saliva collection, stress testing, and data analysis.

The effectiveness on the muscle expansion and the mechanism of "slow training" which puts a slow burden on muscles in slow operation were investigated. In this research, the frequency analysis of electromyography and investigation of the density of oxygenated hemoglobin in muscles were conducted to clarify the characteristics of the slow training which are different from the conventional training with high burden on muscles, in terms of the activation level of the fast-twitch fiber in muscles of legs. In these investigations, it was clarified that the cumulative value of electromyography during the training is relatively high, and the effectiveness of muscular expansion by the slow training is remarkable, like the conventional training. In addition to this, it was clarified that the fast twitch fiber was activated during the slow training because the power level of high frequency in the FFT analysis of electromyography is relatively high and the oxygenated hemoglobin is relatively low in muscles.

The stress induced during visual display terminals tasks in various environments was researched. One subject was made to do visual display terminals. The stress induced during visual display terminals tasks was evaluated using concentration of cortisol in saliva, sensory value, and work efficiency. In addition, the correlation between them was studied. New indices concerning stress and work efficiency were derived by means of the multivariate analysis. It was found that two new indices were enable to design a comfortable working environment.

Deaf or hard-of-hearing people need support services such as real-time captioning. It is fairly common for captionists to be unable to perform captioning services. In order to address this problem, we proposed a Mobile-type Remote-captioning System. The main characteristic of our system is to use two functions of one mobile phone (e.g. the iPhone 3G/3GS, Apple Computer, Inc.) at the same time. The two functions are to display the captions input by the captionists (data communications) and to call the captionists to transmit the speaker's speech to the captionists (telephone call). The purpose of our research was to make clear the differences with the existing system, and to discover the advantages and faults of our system. In this study, we investigated these issues using a questionnaire for captionists who had used our system. As a result, we found that our system is suitable for a situation in which the speaker and the deaf or hard-of-hearing person are communicating while walking together (e.g. excursions, plant tours), whether indoors or outdoors. In addition, it reduces the stress that can be caused to deaf or hard-of-hearing children by having adults (captionists) other than teachers in the classroom.
