江戸時代末期に爆発的に流行し、巷間に流布した"判じ物"資料に「もの尽くし判じ物」がある。「もの尽くし判じ物」は動物、植物、食品、調度品、風俗などの部類によるもの尽くし絵であるが、それがいわゆる"判じ絵"で描かれている点に特徴がある。また、「もの尽くし判じ物」は大判の錦絵摺りで、一枚物を基本としたが、二枚から数枚で一組とされた例も見られる。本稿では、「もの尽くし判じ物」を代表する三種の表現手法を取りあげ、それらが一朝一夕に成されたものではなく、日本語のことば遊びの歴史と伝統に基づいたものであったことを指摘する。"Monozukushi Hanjimono", which took the world by storm in the Edo era, is one of picture puzzles. The picture puzzles in "Monozukushi Hanjimono" are classified by subjects such as animal, plant, food, supply and public moral. They are Nishikie, which are color prints. This report treats three kinds of expressions in these picture puzzles, and indicates that their expressions were not made easily but had been made in the long history and tradition of Japanese language.
