ビデオ画像通信を用いて遠隔のオフィスの状況を見せることで、近接感を提供するビデオアウェアネスの研究が注目されている。オフィスが近接していることにより、思い立った時、廊下で偶然出会った時等、偶発的に会話が行われ、共同作業者との人間関係の維持や、新しいプロジェクトの生成に重要な役割を果たしていることが知られている。本稿では、近接者間で偶発的に発生するコミュニケーションのモデルを示し、モデルに基づく設計により、過去の実験システムで明らかにされた問題点が解決できることを示す。また、オフィスでのコミュニケーション観察結果、簡易なプロトタイプによる予備実験の結果を報告し、ビデオアウェアネスシステムの利用効果について考察する。A great interest has developed in providing awareness via video to support a sense of proximity. Proximity permits unplanned contact and provides mechanism for bringing together potential partners as well as for maintaining existing collaborative relationships. In this paper, we propose an unplanned communication support method based on a group interaction model and show how this method solve problems addressed in previous researches. Effects of video awareness system is also discussed based on observations of office communication and our experiment using a preliminary prototype system.
