This paper provides a general description of the phonological history of Okinawan language, mainly focusing on its palatalization and affricative changes. The outline of this paper is as follows; (1) Did the affricative change of */ki/ occur during the 16th century? (2) The affricative change of */ti/ already occurred in the beginning of the 16th century, prior to that of */ki/. (3) It appears that the affricative formation of */gi/ and */di/ occurred slightly later than that of */ki/ and */ti/. (4) The palatalization of */-ika/ had already occurred in the beginning of 16th century. (5) The affricative formation of */ita/ occurred in the beginning of 16th century. (6) The palatalization of */iga/ occurred in the beginning of 16th century. (7) The palatalization of */ida/ must have occurred during the 16th century.

沖縄語の通時的研究は、その共時的研究に比して、遅れていると言わざるをえないという認識の下に、(音韻史に関して)その基盤構築・整備のための研究を進めてきた。その目標の八割ぐらいは実現できた。ハングル資料・漢字資料に関してはほぼ達成できたが、いくつかの仮名資料及びアルファベット資料に関しては、後日を期すものが生じた。作業は継続し、相応のまとめをする予定である。ハングル資料「語音翻訳」「漂海録」に関しては、影印・翻刻を初め、本文・語彙索引及び分析にいたるまで、今回の研究で最終的なものが示せた。漢字資料に関しては、『琉球譯』の分析が保留となったが、本文の検討と語彙索引の作成によってある程度の成果が得られた。その他の漢字資料「中山伝信録」「琉球入学見聞録」等については、ほぼ完成したものが得られた。仮名資料に関しては、辞令文書・碑文記を中心に研究の骨格となるものが示せた。が、本文入力は終了しながら語彙索引作成・分析にまで到れなかったものが、いくつか存在する。その最たるものが『沖縄對話』(1880)である。進行中の語彙索引が完成すれば、研究の進展に寄与すること大である。アルファベット資料に関して言えば、「クリフォード琉球語彙」を基に研究の基盤が整備された。「チェンバレン琉球語彙」と称して収録した「チヤンバレーン氏増訂琉球会話」の語彙索引は、有効な資料となろう。『ベッテルハイム琉球語文典』から抜粋した「ベッテルハイム琉球語彙」の語彙索引も今後作成されるので、合わせて利用すれば相当の効果が得られる。報告書(1)・(2)を基に、前述の保留資料も整備して、『沖縄語の歴史(音声・音韻)』としてまとめる構想を持っている。研究の更なる発展を目指す。

The Action of Nonverbal Representation sometimes plays a more important role than Linguistic behavior. The purpose of this study is to propose the material to assist Japanese Language Learning based upon the newly established data base of the Action of Nonverbal Representation in Japanese.
