Alkaloids contained in the domestic <i>Berberis Tschonoskiana</i> REGEL. (Japanese name &lsquo;Ohba-megi&rsquo;) were examined and 9 kinds of bases listed in Table II were isolated. Of these, 3 kinds of tertiary bases, obamegine, obaberine, and of m.p. 89-92&deg; are new bases first discovered from this plant (cf. Table III).

The proton magnetic resonance spectra of N-methylcoclaurine type bases were examined and assignment of the alkoxyl groups and aromatic protons was presented. Correlations of the Chemical shifts with stereochemistry of the molecule were discussed.
