The examination of the fluorescent substances in the blood by rabbit blood has made clear the fluorescent substances found in it. Five kinds of fluorescent substances are found in the blood besides riboflavin. The investigation has been pursued with the application of spot colour reaction derived from paper partition chromatography, spector examination, contrivance of development solvent and bioassay. The result has shown that folic acid derivative in violet fluorescent substance, 3-hydroxykynurenine in yellow-green fluorescent substance, kynurenine in blue fluorescent substance and protoporphyrin in red-brown fluorescent substance have been identified. In yellow-brown fluorescent substance, a substance which seems to have a relation with protoporphyrin has been presumed.

We have established new colorimetric methods for the assay of adenosine deaminase, purine nucleoside phosphorylase and guanase activities in serum, based on the formation of hydrogen peroxide with xanthine oxidase as a coupling enzyme. [chemical formula] The proposed methods were found to be precise and convenient. Under the assay conditions, the mean levels of adenosine deaminase, purine nucleoside phosphorylase and guanase activities in the sera of normal subjects were 5.8±2.2 I. U./1, 3.7±2.1 I. U./1 and 0.5±0.3 I. U./1, respectively.

A colorimetric method for the assay of xanthine oxidase activity, based on the production of hydrogen peroxide, is described. [chemical formula] The precision, accuracy, sensitivity and specificity of the method were found to be satisfactory for the rapid and reliable determination of xanthine oxidase activity.

Separative determination of α-chymotrypsin and Bromelain, frequently used as an anti -inflammatory enzyme preparation, was examined. p-Chloromercuribenzoic acid (PCMB) was used as the inhibitor of Bromelain. Since Bromelain activity in preparations was completely inhibited by 10^<-4>_M of PCMB in the reaction system, remaining α-chymotrypsin activity was determined with good accuracy. The difference between their total activity and α-chymotrypsin activity agreed with Bromelain activity.
