群馬県下における甲状腺癌集団検診を1980年から県対ガン協会と協力し,乳癌検診と同時に実施してきたので, 5年間の成績結果を報告する.受診者総数は91.787名(実人数54,625名)で,一次検診の異常者は4.6%,要精検者は2.4%であった.甲状腺癌は133例(乳頭癌117例,濾胞癌15例,髄様癌1例)発見され,発見率は0.14%,実人数に対して0.24%であった.初回受診者は繰り返し受診者よりも2倍発見率が高い.集検癌の82%が甲状腺腫に気付いていなかった.腫瘤径は2cm以下が65.5%を占め, 1cm以下の微小癌が22.6%にみられた.教室外来例に比して,リンパ節転移程度も少なく,甲状腺内に限局しているより早期の癌が多かった.転帰はリンパ節再発1例,残存甲状腺再発1例,交通事故死1例の他は健存であり,きわめて予後良好であった.甲状腺癌の集団検診は早期発見,早期治療上,有意義であり,今後さらに普及させるべきものと思われる.

It is a great pleasure for us to hold the 10 th Annual Meeting of the Japan Association of Breast Cancer Screening in the year 2000. In this memorial year, it is important and significant to leave on record &ldquo;the history of breast cancer screening in Japan&rdquo;. Although the cancer screening program in Japan was started for stomach and uterine cancers in approximately 1960, breast cancer screening began almost five years later. However, several years before this, a few tentative programs of breast screening were performed by very small groups in rural regions between 1961 and 1964. From then until now, the history of breast cancer screening can be divided into the following three stages : 1) the &ldquo;dawn&rdquo; period, the time of individual and regional projects (1961-1974) ; 2) the period of the Japan Cancer Society and the Japanese Breast Cancer Society (1974-1990) ; 3) the period of the Japan Association of Breast Cancer Screening (1991-present date)<BR>During each of the above periods, breast cancer screening projects in Japan have gradually matured and extended to large-scale projects throughout the country, together with the introduction of basic guide-lines, a data-analysis system and academic annual meetings.
