The purpose of this study is to analyze the educational meaning of experience of <Ensoku<, it's mountain climbing, at <Jiyu Gakuen< (one of the private school in Japan) by interpretation of reports of mountain climbing and journal which written by students of the school as human document. Jiyu Gakuen was founded as alternative school. at Jiyu Gakuen, the every student climbs a mountain from the beginning of the foundation. There is no specific educational aim. The aim is just experience mountain climbing. Usually, when they climb mountain as educational events, they define the educational aim, and the teacher try make student achieve that. From the analysis of the human documents, we recognize that the student realizes the discord with ideal of oneself and fact of oneself, through that. Through the experiences divorced from daily life, they reflect their daily life and themselves, and through the experiences of encounter the great nature, they feel awe. through these experiences, they determine to turn over a new leaf. these processes can be translated as initiations that pass the stage of <divorce<, <transition<, and <unification< (Gennep, 1977). and the meaning of mountain climbing as initiation is based on the thought of the founder of Jiyu Gakuen.
