Many methods of recovery of uranium from seawater have been suggested : coprecipitation, adsorption, ion flotation, solvent extraction, and others. Of these, only the adsorption method using a suitable solid adsorbent seems to be feasible with regard to economic and envirom ental impacts. Extensive investigations of adsorbents have been carried out. Among the various organic resins, chelating resins containing amidoxime groups have been selected. A novel amidoxime-group-containing adsorbent of hollow-fiber form was prepared by radiation-induced graft polymerization of acrylonitrile onto a polyethylene hollow fiber, followed by chemical conversion of the produced cyano group to an amidoxime group. The fixed-bed adsorption column, 30 cm in length and charged with the bundle of amidoxime hollow-fibers, was found to adsorb uranium from seawater at a sufficiently high rate : 0.66 mg uranium per g of adsorbent in 25 days.

放射線グラフト重合法によってアミドオキシム型キレート樹脂を合成し, 海水中におけるウランと樹脂との吸着平衡関係を調べた.短時間で平衡に到達させるため, アミドオキシム基量を1kg基材あたり0.105 mol以下に制御した.アミドオキシム基量が0.064 mol/kg-BP以下の樹脂では, 海水中でのウラン吸着が飽和に達していた.グラフト鎖上で隣接した二個のアミドオキシム基が, ウラニルイオン一個を捕捉し, 単独のアミドオキシム基はウラン吸着に寄与しないと考えた.隣接アミドオキシム基とウラニルイオンの錯形成の反応式から, Langmuir型吸着平衡式を導き, 吸着平衡の実験結果を整理した.全アミドオキシム基量0.105 mol/kg-BPの樹脂について, 隣接アミドオキシム基量は, そのうち0.39%という結果を得た.

An immobilized metal affinity porous membrane of a hollow-fiber form was applied to the purification of geneticallyengineered histidine (His)–tagged fusion protein. An iminodiacetate (IDA)group (–N(CH2COOH)2)was introducedinto the poly–glycidyl methacrylate chain grafted onto a polyethylene-made porous hollow–fiber membrane.Subsequently, nickel ions were bound to the IDA group before the permeation of a His–tagged green fluorescent pro-tein (GFP)solution through the porous membrane. The resultant immobilized nickel affinity porous membrane(immobilized Ni membrane)had a ligand density of 0.36 mol/kg and a phosphate buffer flux of 0.4 m/h at a perme-ation pressure of 0.1 MPa and 298 K. His–tagged GFP adsorbed to the immobilized Ni membrane was eluted by per-meating a 0.5 M imidazole solution through the porous membrane. From an SDS–PAGE analysis, the purity of theprotein was found to be improved from 35 to 97%.
