Background: Physiological assessments using fractional flow reserve (FFR) and resting full-cycle ratio (RFR) have been recommended for revascularization decision making. Previous studies have shown a 20% rate of discordance between FFR and RFR. In this context, the correlation between RFR and FFR in patients with renal dysfunction remains unclear. This study examined correlations between RFR and FFR according to renal function.Methods and Results: In all, 263 consecutive patients with 370 intermediate lesions were enrolled in the study. Patients were classified into 3 groups according to renal function: Group 1, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≥60 mL/min/1.73 m2; Group 2, 30 mL/min/1.73 m2≤eGFR<60 mL/min/1.73 m2; Group 3, eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73 m2. The discordance between FFR and RFR was assessed using known cut-off values for FFR (≤0.80) and RFR (≤0.89). Of the 370 lesions, functional significance with FFR was observed in 154 (41.6%). RFR was significantly correlated with FFR in all groups (Group 1, R2=0.62 [P<0.001]; Group 2, R2=0.67 [P<0.001]; Group 3, R2=0.46 [P<0.001]). The rate of discordance between RFR and FFR differed significantly among the 3 groups (Group 1, 18.8%; Group 2, 18.5%; Group 3, 42.9%; P=0.02).Conclusions: The diagnostic performance of RFR differed based on renal function. A better understanding of the clinical factors contributing to FFR/RFR discordance, such as renal function, may facilitate the use of these indices.

Electrocardiographic recognition of the P' wave during tachycardia is very useful in the diagnosis of supraventricular tachycardias. In slow/fast (S/F) atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT), no discrete P' waves are observed on ECG and pseudo r' deflection in lead V1 (pseudo r') is commonly recognized. However, the atrial components that contribute to the genesis of pseudo r' in lead V1 have not been described and this study aimed to clarify them by analysis of the whole activation sequence of the right atrium using Basket catheter isochronal mapping. The study group comprised 48 patients with AVNRT. Pseudo r' was defined as an upward deflection in the terminal portion of the QRS complex during tachycardia that was not recognized during sinus rhythm and it occurred in 45 patients (94%). During S/F AVNRT, the retrograde atrial activation was earliest on His bundle electrogram, followed by the coronary sinus ostium, distal coronary sinus and high right atrium. Only the high lateral aspect of the right atrium was activated after the end of the QRS complex. The interval between the onset of QRS in multiple surface ECG leads and the atrial activities on high right atrium was similar to the V-r' interval in lead V1 (111 ±20 ms, 117±11 ms) and correlated with the V-r' interval (r=0.56). Pseudo r' deflection in lead V1 is a highly sensitive indicator of S/F AVNRT, and appears to result from the activation of the superolateral aspect of the right atrium. (Circ J 2002; 66: 236 - 240)

A kind of citrus fruit with special flavor, Citrus sudachi harvested in Japan, are exported to various countries. However, the Citrus sudachi needs to be sterilized using aqueous solution of sodium hypochlorite because there is a possibility of the adhesion of citrus bacterial canker (CBC) which is not found in Europe. Due to the sterilization with time-consuming work, a more effective decontamination technique is required. A decontamination method using ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation is thus anticipated. Especially, the use of light emitting diodes (LEDs) wi UV light has many advantages in terms of energy consumption, lifetime, and compactness; although an appropriate method is yet to be established. In this study, we evaluate the fundamental effectiveness of UV-LED decontamination on the basis of the bactericidal ability on CBC in petri dishes, using six kinds of UV-LEDs (265, 280, 285, 300, 310, and 365 nm) . For each irradiation, the resultant bactericidal abilities (BAs) were evaluated precisely taking into account the differences in their optical absorptions. In addition, BAs per unit photon number were also estimated, as a fundamental wavelength-dependence of BA. As a result, the effectiveness of UV-LED irradiation with relatively short wavelengths was demonstrated clearly.

Licorice (Glycyrrhiza uralensis) is a medicinal plant that contains glycyrrhizin (GL), which has various pharmacological activities. Because licorice is a legume, it can establish a symbiotic relationship with nitrogen-fixing rhizobial bacteria. However, the effect of this symbiosis on GL production is unknown. Rhizobia were isolated from root nodules of Glycyrrhiza glabra, and a rhizobium that can form root nodules in G. uralensis was selected. Whole-genome analysis revealed a single circular chromosome of 6.7 Mbp. This rhizobium was classified as Mesorhizobium by phylogenetic analysis and was designated Mesorhizobium sp. J8. When G. uralensis plants grown from cuttings were inoculated with J8, root nodules formed. Shoot biomass and SPAD values of inoculated plants were significantly higher than those of uninoculated controls, and the GL content of the roots was 3.2 times that of controls. Because uninoculated plants from cuttings showed slight nodule formation, we grew plants from seeds in plant boxes filled with sterilized vermiculite, inoculated half of the seedlings with J8, and grew them with or without 100 µM KNO3. The SPAD values of inoculated plants were significantly higher than those of uninoculated plants. Furthermore, the expression level of the CYP88D6 gene, which is a marker of GL synthesis, was 2.5 times higher than in inoculated plants. These results indicate that rhizobial symbiosis promotes both biomass and GL production in G. uralensis.

Since embedded systems are used for various purposes at a variety of places, their security, reliability, and availability are important concerns. Virtualization technology has been used for a long time in order to improve the security of systems, and the other advanced features recently become available also to improve the reliability and/or availability. In order to apply virtualization technology to systems, the detailed analysis of target processor architectures is required. Although such analysis was performed for x86 architecture, it is not available for the ARM architecture, which is the most widely used processor architecture for embedded systems. This paper focuses on such analysis of the ARM processor architecture. We also present the implementation details of a virtual machine monitor (VMM) based on the analysis. We implemented a VMM, called SIVARM, for the ARM architecture to perform and verify the analysis of its ability to support a VMM. We successfully booted Linux on SIVARM and performed the evaluation by executing several benchmark programs on the ARM 1136JF-S processor. It verifies the analysis of the sensitive instructions and also enables the analysis of the performance impact of the virtualization.

Because of the growing market for sports drinks, prevention of yeast contamination of these beverages is of significant concern. This research was performed to achieve insight into the physiology of yeast growing in sports drinks through a genome-wide approach to prevent microbial spoilage of sports drinks. The genome-wide gene expression profile of Saccharomyces cerevisiae growing in the representative sports drink was investigated. Genes that were relevant to sulphate ion starvation response were upregulated in the yeast cells growing in the drink. These results suggest that yeast cells are suffering from deficiency of extracellular sulphate ions during growth in the sports drink. Indeed, the concentration of sulphate ions was far lower in the sports drink than in a medium that allows the optimal growth of yeast. To prove the starvation of sulphate ions of yeast, several ions were added to the beverage and its effects were investigated. The addition of sulphate ions, but not chloride ions or sodium ions, to the beverage stimulated yeast growth in the beverage in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, the addition of sulphate ions to the sports drink increased the biosynthesis of sulphur-containing amino acids in yeast cells and hydrogen sulphide in the beverage. These results indicate that sulphate ion concentration should be regulated to prevent microbial spoilage of sports drinks.
