Static stretching (SS) is widely used to decrease and retain the passive stiffness of the muscle-tendon unit in clinical and athletic settings. It is important to consider the minimum SS duration required to decrease the passive stiffness of the hamstring, from the perspective of injury prevention of the hamstring muscle. The purpose of this study was to investigate the time course of the effect of static stretching (SS) on passive stiffness of the hamstring and to clarify the minimum SS duration required to decrease the passive stiffness. Fifteen healthy males participated in this study. Fifteen healthy and non-athlete male volunteers participated in this study. SS of 60-s session was performed for five sessions with a 30-s rest between sessions. Passive stiffness was measured prior to SS (PRE) and immediately after each SS session to determine the minimum SS duration required to decrease the passive stiffness. The passive stiffness was calculated as the slope of the torque-angle curve corresponding to 50% of the final angle (Nm/°). Passive stiffness after 180, 240, and 300 s of SS was significantly lower than that at PRE. Our results showed that SS for >180 s is recommended to decrease the passive stiffness of the hamstring muscle.

A 78-year-old man with mild coronary arteriosclerosis on coronary CT angiography underwent MRI of the prostate with the administration of Gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) (gadopentetate dimeglumine). He developed acute coronary syndrome immediately after the intravenous injection of GBCA, and recovered after the administration of nitroglycerine, atropine sulfate, and hydrocortisone. He was discharged on the ninth day of hospitalization without recurrent chest symptoms. This is the second reported case of Kounis syndrome caused by GBCA. Kounis syndrome caused by MR contrast media is rare, but we should recognize that all contrast agents have the potential to cause Kounis syndrome.

While the use of in vitro-transcribed mRNA (IVT-mRNA) in therapeutics is a rapidly expanding area, the transfection of the exogenous IVT-mRNA is accompanied by a risk of immune activation. This immunological defense mechanism suppresses cellular translation process and can reduce transfection efficiency to a considerable extent. In the present study, we investigated the in vitro effects of Integrated Stress Response Inhibitor (ISRIB), and dexamethasone, a steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, on the transfection activity of a lipid nanoparticle (LNP) that was composed of ionizable lipids and IVT-mRNA. In the case of transfection to mouse embryonic fibroblast (MEF) cells, ISRIB mainly enhanced the transfection activity at an early stage of transfection (0–6 h). In contrast, dexamethasone caused an increase in transfection activity at intermediate-late stages of transfection (4–48 h). We also investigated the in vivo effects of dexamethasone using an LNP on that the IVT-mRNA and lipid-conjugated dexamethasone (Dex-Pal) were co-loaded. The intravenous administration of the LNP successfully enhanced the protein expression in a mouse liver by up to 6.6-fold. Collectively, the co-delivery of an anti-inflammatory drug is a promising approach for enhancing transfection efficiency of IVT-mRNA.

A SrZrO3 thin film with yttrium (Y) concentration of 20 at % (SZYO) was successfully deposited by the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique. The laser power of PLD affected Y-concentration significantly even though it used the same PLD target. On contrary, the laser reputation frequency and the deposition temperature did not significantly affect the composition. The SZYO film deposited at the optimized conditions was well crystallized and showed no secondary phase and showed (111) and (110) orientations when they were deposited on (111)Pt/SiOx/Si and on (111)Pd/(111)Pt/SiOx/Si substrates, respectively. This SZYO film is expected to use as an electrode of our proposed novel solid oxide fuel cells.

電気鉄道の安全安定輸送を確保するため,雷害防止が求められている。本論文では,電気鉄道設備の雷サージ特性実測を行い,接地インピーダンス特性を雷サージの視点から検討した。さらに,電力系統解析技術を応用して鉄道特有機器の回路解析モデルを開発し,その精度を実測で確認し,鉄道設備雷電流侵入時の応答を実測および計算結果より明らかにした。これらの成果は,電気鉄道の設計・保守・解析に十分に生かすことが可能である。
