Naishi no Kami (Early Autumn) of Utsuho Monogatari, is important chapter that connect the first half portion and the rear half portion. Nakatada and Fujitsubo, Kanemasa and Jizyuuden, Toshikage no Musume and Emperor Suzaku, these couples had loved each other, but could not be married. In Sumo festival, they enjoy love games. In Naishi no Kami, there are many mistakes and contradictions. For example, in Fukiage, Emperor Suzaku commanded that Msayori should marry Atemiya off to Suzushi, the First Princess off to Nakatada, but this royal command changed in Naishi no kami. Nakazumi who had died in shock of Atemiy’s bridal appears in this Chapter. Other Chapters had rewrited, but Naishi no Kami had not rewrited because of sophisticted representation. Thus these conflicts caused. Some keywords and motif are reperated many times in this chapter. In Naishi no Kami, autumn wind is blowing all the time. Yomogi (wormwood) and mugura (sagebrush) reminisce deep affection and Platonic love of Kaguyahime and the Emperor of Taketori Monogatari. The episodes of Zyohuku and Kuramoti no Miko reminisce Toshikage’s drift. This Monogatri tries to return to starting point. Naishi no Kami was the requiem for Toshikage. By repetition of keywords and motif, theme of this chapter has been emphasized.

Even though Isemonogatari and Yamatomonogatari are works of the same period, their characteristics are very different. Isemonogatari depicts the life of a man after Ariwara no Narihira, his real name is not revealed. In Yamatomonogatari, there is no hero, many poets appear, they are introduced by there real names. Several chapters of Yamatomonogatari are based on Isemonogatari. For example, Comparing chpter23 of Isemonogatari and 149 of Yamatomonogatari, Yamatomonogatari has benn evaluated as inferior to Isemonogatari. This paper focuses on chapters 160–166, which Narihira appears. In these chapters, romance in the palace is an important topic. Romance of Saigu, downward to Azuma, friendship of men, these topics are not covered. Yamatomonogatari doesn't imitate Isemonogatari, modified in various ways. In Yamatomonogatari, Nizyou no Kisaki (Takaiko)'s character is changed as an aggressive woman in love. The empathy of Narihira is emphasized by the characters such as Somedono no Naishi and Ben no Miyasundokoro. Narihira died alone in Isemonogatari. In contrast, his death was mourned by many women. Yamatomonogatari tries to create new stories while being influenced by Isemonogatari.

In the Heian era, the invention of kana (Japanese syllabary) has brought about many linguistic changes. Especially the changes were remarkable in the field of literature. Many monogataris (novels or romans) were written in kana, read by many people. In waka, kakekotoba (homonymy), a kind of rhetoric has been polished. At last, Japanese had got letter they can write their own language more easilly and exactly. As soon as kana was invented, Taketori-Monogatari, the oldest monogatari, called “A father of monogatari”, was written. This monogatari contains 15 waka. This monogatari consists of topics about 5 noblemen’s proposal to Kaguya-Hime and topics of emperor’s proposal and Hime’s return to the moon. In the story of 5men’s proposal, waka is skillful with kakekotoba and humorous, contrary in the story of emperor’s proposal and return, waka is simple, serious and lyrical. The difference between the two shows Kaguya-Hime’s change into a human. And it is important that exchanges of waka form human relations in this monogatari. As the progress of monogatari, poetic lyricism arises, but, it is negated. In the scene of Mt. Fuji, finally monogatari has regained the poetic lyricism. Taketori-Monogatari has been enriched by the use of kana.
