In various coastal areas of Japan, naturalized radish populations are observed. Radish is a cruciferous plant and exhibits self-incompatibility, involving a system controlled by a single locus with multiple S alleles. Although the S allele diversity of radish cultivars and wild radishes has been characterized, the S allele distribution in naturalized populations has not yet been analyzed in relation to the positions of the plants in situ. Here, we show the S allele distribution in naturalized radish populations of Yakushima, a small island in the East China Sea, with positions of the plants. Radish plants were sampled in coastal areas in Yakushima, and their S alleles were detected and characterized. Most of the S alleles had been previously identified in radish cultivars. However, four novel S alleles, which may be unique to Yakushima, were also found. Moreover, seeds in siliques from plants growing in the study areas were sampled, and S allele determination in DNA extracted from these seeds suggested that the plants had exchanged their pollen among their close neighbors. There was also a problem in that the PCR amplification of some SRK alleles was difficult because of their sequence diversity in the naturalized populations, as occurs in cultivars. Our results suggest that the exchange of S alleles between cultivars and naturalized populations occurs and that S alleles in naturalized populations are highly diverse. The methodology established in our study should be applicable to other self-incompatible species to dissect the diversity of S allele distribution in naturalized populations.

子ども虐待や貧困問題がクローズアップされていることをふまえて,貧困と育児ストレス,育児ストレスと虐待,そして貧困と虐待との連関については研究が進められてきている.しかし,乳幼児期の貧困とこれらの連関については十分な検討がなされていない.本研究では,乳幼児期の貧困問題の構造を明らかにすることを目的にした名古屋市内の大規模質問紙調査の結果から,保育所保護者における貧困層の養育態度について分析する.その結果,第1に,貧困層は他階層に比べて保育所利用を消極的にとらえていること,第2に,所得が低くなれば「同じことの繰り返し」「解放されたい」「我慢している」という育児ストレスを抱えやすく,そのストレスの発散方法として「ついついあたった」「ついつい叩いた」「厳しく叱った」という養育態度になること,第3に,200名を超える保育所利用者が「世話に関心ない」と答えていることの諸点を確認できた.

The third latitude survey in cosmic-ray neutrons has been carried out along the same ship-route and by using the same apparatus as in the preceeding two surveys. Although the observation room was the same as that in the second survey, one additional room was constructed over our room. Thus, as observational conditions in the three latitude surveys are different from one another, the obtained results could not be compared in absolute intensity but in relative. The periods during which each survey was performed are represented with the corresponding sunspot relative numbers in Fig. 1, where a full curve shows the 12 months running average of monthly mean values in sunspot numbers. Fig. 2 shows 12 hour mean values for each latitude curve in the southern hemisphere. It is seen from the figure that the slope of latitude curve becomes gentle at the second survey and then almost recovers at the third. To explain such changes in primary cosmic-rays by terms of changes in solar activity represented by sunspot numbers as shown in Fig. 1, we suppose a hysteresis effect of solar activity upon cosmic-rays. In other words, changes in cosmic-rays do not immediately follow that in solar activity but about half a year later.
