COVID-19 vaccine-related myocarditis has been reported worldwide. We herein report two Japanese cases with suspected vaccine-related myocarditis. A 27-year-old man was admitted with chest pain 4 days after the second vaccination. An electrocardiogram (ECG) did not reveal any significant abnormalities. The second patient, a 37-year-old man, was admitted with chest pain 9 days after the first vaccination. His ECG exhibited ST-elevation in multiple leads. In both cases, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging findings were consistent with myocarditis. They recovered with symptomatic relief within a few days. These cases suggest that the benefit of COVID-19 vaccination exceeds the risk of vaccine-related myocarditis.

The aim of this study was to examine whether 2.16% hypertonic saline solution (HSS) is useful for the treatment of diarrheic calves with hyponatremia. Eleven of 13 female Holstein calves exhibiting moderate diarrhea and hyponatremia received 1,250 ml of 2.16% HSS over 15 min regardless of body weight. The remaining two calves that were unable to stand and had severe hyponatremia received 2,500 ml of 2.16% HSS intravenously over 30 min. As a result, hyponatremia in all diarrheic calves was significantly improved by the administration of 2.16% HSS from 122.2 ± 7.0 mEq/l at pre to 134.8 ± 3.7 mEq/l at post, which was above the threshold of 132 mEq/l for hyponatremia. Therefore, 2.16% HSS may be useful for hyponatremia in calves with diarrhea.

Although microarray has been an important tool that can perform extensive gene expression analyses, next generation sequencing (NGS) has recently arisen as an alternative methodology that can measure gene expression. In this paper, we have compared microarray and NGS quantitatively using microRNA measurements in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and found that these two are coincident with each other. Disease biomarker using blood is clinically important, since blood is easy to obtain from patients, thus it requires relatively less stress. However, blood generally reflects not only targeted diseases but also whole body status of patients. Thus, it is important which contents of blood are considered. Recently, miRNAs in blood, blood-borne miRNome, turns out to be promising candidates for blood based biomarker for diseases. In this paper, we propose a new method based upon principal component analysis to identify better candidates for miRNAs as blood based biomarker using miRNA expression profiles of patients. Our method based upon principal components analysis provides us better blood-borne miRNome to discriminate diseases from healthy controls. They are hsa-miR-425,hsa-miR-15b,hsa-miR-185, hsa-miR-92a, hsa-miR-140-3p, hsamiR-320a, hsa-miR-486-5p, hsa-miR-16, hsa-miR-191, hsa-miR-106b, hsa-miR-19b, and hsa-miR-30d and are previously extensively reported to be cancer/disease related miRNAs. We have found that these common miRNAs are expressive or suppressive significantly in most of diseases/cancers, but in diseases/cancers specific combinatory manner. It enables us to discriminate cancers/diseases from healthy control well.
