After rice cooking, retrogradation of starch in a cooked rice progresses quickly at under gelatinization temperature. Cold rice (aging rice) is tasteless, firm and digested slowly. My aim in this report is explained the relationship between cold rice tasteless and indexes of starch retrogradation. Starch gelatinization degree, starch whiteness index and resistant starch content that were indexes of starch retrogradation did not change remarkably of cold and aging rice that were very firm and bad eating quality by the sensory test. In spite of low resistant starch content of aging rice, the cecal content short chain fatty acids and starch content of rat fed aging rice powder were higher than that of rat fed fresh and warm rice powder.

Computer-mediated Communication made it possible to bring an authentic environment of using a second language learners' target language in their classroom. It is also true that there are many opportunities to interact not only with native speakers (like ALTs) but also with their classmates who are also learning the same target language. The present research focused on an English writing activity, which was assigned to 130 sophomore students at Nagaoka National College of Technology (NNCT) during the summer vacation in 2005. 33 of them chose to do it on their blog site through the Internet so that their classmates were able to check what they were doing and, hopefully, interact with each other during their summer vacation. A survey was carried out among those 33 students about the assignment. Most of them were able to build up their confidence for what they have done, increase the chance of using dictionaries, and enjoy writing on their blog sites. However, the result did not show that this activity would strengthen the relationship among the participants.

This study examines the receptive vocabulary size of Japanese EFL learners of the ages from 16 to 19, and describes characteristics and differences according to their school year, overall English ability, and whole vocabulary size. The results showed that the average vocabulary sizes of students of the first, second and third years in a college of technology are about 2370, 2612, and 3417 words. It showed also that the average vocabulary size of the third graders is comparable to that of well-motivated students of a public high school, and that there is no statistically significant difference in the annual increase in the vocabulary size between the learners whose overall English skill is low and those who are at a higher level.

本稿は,長岡高専インターアクトクラブと沖縄高専WSBとのお互いの地域を行き来しての文化・世代・国際交流を紹介し,その意義と課題を検討した.長岡高専インターアクトクラブは,1965年に長岡ロータリークラブの認証による創設され,それ以来の福祉施設の双葉寮訪問などの社会貢献活動と,この20年来,スキー研修,バーベキュー,長岡大花火見物,餅つきなど本校や他校の留学生との文化・国際交流活動を行ってきた.メンバーは多数の留学生を含めて40人前後である.沖縄高専国際交流委員会WSBは,2010年4月に顧問が全沖縄高専生に呼びかけて集まったうちの2名を発起人として同好会設立を届け出た.6月からは週1回の定例会活動を始め,7月には沖縄高専初の留学生歓迎会などの行事を実施した.メンバーは留学生を含めて平成24年5月現在で31人である.2011年3月から長岡高専インターアクトクラブと沖縄高専WSBとは,3月の国際交流スキー研修と9月の沖縄交流平和研修で,お互いに行き来してのホームアンドアウェイの遠隔地間の交流をし,留学生とのロータリアンも交えての多文化・多世代交流を始めた.これらの行事の実施に当たり,国際ロータリー第2560地区ガバナー,第2580地区ガバナー,長岡ロータリークラブ,那覇ロータリークラブ,那覇西ロータリークラブから様々な形で大きな支援を受けたことに感謝したい.

科学研究費補助金の一つである奨励研究は技術職員が申請可能な補助金であり,近年,高専並びに大学における積極的な取り組み事例が報告されている.本報告では奨励研究の概要や応募採択状況,申請書類作成の要点について述べると共に,高専技術職員の奨励研究採択状況について国立情報学研究所の「科学研究費補助金採択課題・成果概要データベース」のデータをもとに検討を行った.奨励研究の研究期間は1年,研究経費は最大で100万円であり,平成18年度は3,077件の申請件数中, 840件が採択され,採択率は27.3%であった,高専技術職員の奨励研究採択状況について,(1)奨励研究の全採択件数中に占める高専技術職員の割合,(2)奨励研究採択における東日本と西日本地域の高専の割合,(3)奨励研究採択課題における教育と研究の割合,(4)近年の奨励研究採択課題の傾向,の4点についてデータベースを用いて検討した.その結果,近年,高専技術職員の奨励研究採択割合が高まっていること,独立行政法人化以降に環境安全衛生に関する採択課題が増加したこと等が明らかになった.

本報告では,高専ロボコン2017にて,史上初となるAとBの両チームともに全国大会に出場した長岡A「新鮮組」と長岡B「ベアLINK"」の関東甲信越地区大会と全国大会の模様とロボティクス部の2017年の活動について報告する.長岡A「新鮮組」は,地区大会にて19年ぶりの優勝を勝ち取り,全国大会出場を決めた.一方,長岡B「ベアLINK"」は,地区大会にてアイデア賞を受賞するも全国大会を逃したが,その後,競技委員会推薦チームとして全国大会を果たした.全国大会では,長岡A「新鮮組」がベスト4と検討し,長岡B「ベアLINK"」は競技で自分たちの持ち味を上手く生かすことができなかったが「アイデア倒れ賞」を受賞した.

A mathematical tablet called sangaku is conserved at the Aoshi Jinjya-the Shinto shrine in Nagaoka. Itis a historical work which shows the wasan-the traditional Japanese mathematics in Edo Period of Japan.We, however, can not read clealy the sangaku due to the deterioration by aging. Then, we have tried to restore the sangaku through the drawing by computer. Also, from the literature, we have inferred the early solution in Edo period.

This paper reports the progress of the extensive reading project launched by the English language teaching staff at Nagaoka National College of Technology. The overall aims of this project are to develop a curriculum which incorporates extensive reading into the general English courses, and to examine its effectivenss through practical researches, in order to increase students English proficiency and promote their autonomous attitude towards studying English. As an initial undertaking of the project, extensive reading is being conducted this year mainly in the English reading course for first-year students. The result of the first six-week extensive reading shows that the amount of students reading depended on the teachers guidance and support. It is suggested that teachers need to provide students with a wide variety of support to motivate them to read out of class, in order to cope with the time limitation for in-class reading.

学生の英語力向上のため,平成21年度に英語多読用図書が長岡高専図書館に導入され,現在の多読用図書の蔵書数は約6千冊である.これらの図書は,主に英語の授業における多読活動の際に利用されている.長岡高専英語科では,地域住民の生涯学習,本校の広報,そして学生が学外でも積極的に多読を行える環境の整備のため,英語多読に関する地域貢献活動を行ってきた.本稿はこれまでに行った「ながおか市民大学」講座,長岡市国際交流センターとの連携,および,中学生対象の英語多読紹介の概要を報告する.
