This paper clarifies the sociohistorical background against which Alfred Schutz, the pioneer of phenomenological sociology, chose to pursue a subjectivist sociology and targeted the issue of typification, by considering his linguistic view as a guiding thread. In the multinational Austro-Hungarian Empire, German-speaking persons were administratively considered Germans, and, ultimately, nationality was founded on one’s subjective sense of identification. “Enlightened” Jews then also became “Germans having faith in Judaism” by acquiring the German language, the ticket into Western civilization. However, the objective-scientific-seeming racial ideology in post-1918 Austria a priori excluded Jews from full membership in the new German nation-state, based on a homogenized racial type. Schutz, a Viennese Jew born in 1899, proposed his subjectivist sociology under this “blood”-based typification of “They” by “We.” Like many Viennese Jews, he believed that minority individuals should be able to choose their group affiliation according to their own identification, and considered language to be a medium for their assimilation into the civic lifeworld; the concept of lifeworld (Lebenswelt) could thus work as a counter-idea against the Nazis’ blood community of Lebensraum, which disallows “another race” from assimilation.

The purpose of this paper is to further our understanding of the intellectual context surrounding the editing of Jinjō Shōgaku-Shōka (Songs for Elementary Students) completed in June 1914. To that end, this paper analyzes the writings of YUHARA Motoichi, president of Tokyo Music School and chief editor of the above compilation. YUHARA showed understanding for socialism as he harbored deep concern for the distress of the urban poor. He did not impose a state-centered, totalitarian structure on the people. Moreover, he recommended music not only as fi ne arts of the upper classes, but also as applied art with the purpose of comforting the lower classes. Further, he tried to encourager music teachers who were experts in schoolchildren’s songs, with the goal of raising their awareness as educators. The concerns of YUHARA and his fellow co-editors for the social problems of the 1910s are reflected in the gentleness manifested within Jinjō Shōgaku-Shōka

This paper examines the formation of the concept of evidence-based medicine(EBM) in physician culture by analyzing articles on EBM published in medical journals between November 1992 and January 1996. The analysis focused on contestation over EBM. The results revealed that articles supporting and criticizing EBM, although seemingly at odds with each other, share a common view. In other words, together, the papers defending and denying EBM constituted a rhetoric that promoted the “probabilization of medicine”.

We investigated and analyzed weapons and armor from the Kofun period, which are managed as "excavated from Soyo-machi" by the Kumamoto Prefecture Cultural Property Reference Room. As a result, it became clear that these artifacts were excavated from the Takatsuka rock-cut tomb group in Takamori-machi. It is assumed that the incorrect excavation location was labeled on the artifacts during the process of storing and managing them at the Kumamoto Prefecture Cultural Properties Reference Room. This indicates the importance of strictly managing artifacts.

The German Sperm Donor Registry Act (Samenspenderregistergesetz SaRegG) came into force in 2018. It de facto banned donor anonymity in AID treatment by introducing a mandatory national sperm donor registry allowing donor-conceived people to retrieve information on the identity of their genetic father. However, since data relating to people conceived before July 2018 or people conceived abroad or in private contexts are not included in the registry, these groups of donor-conceived people continue to face difficulties when trying to exercise their right to know their genetic origins. Therefore, the Verein Spenderkinder ("association of donor-conceived children"), a self-help organization and lobby group of donor-conceived people founded in 2009, continues to highlight the limitations of the current legal situation and the consequences for the possibilities of donor-conceived people to exercise their right to know their origins. By analyzing the positions and demands of the Verein Spenderknder as an influential actor in the ongoing discourse, this article aims to carve out the association's specific understanding of the scope and content of the right to know one's origins.
