This time I take up Roots (1976), the saga of an American family, in which Alex Haley traced his family to its deepest roots, back to his African ancestors. When he was a boy in Henning, Tennessee, Haley s grandmother used to tell him stories about their family - stories that went back to her grandparents, and their grandparents, down through the generations all the way to a man she called "the African." Still vividly remembering the stories after he grew up and became a writer, Haley, who had carried on the dying wishes of Malcolm X that he wanted to refashion the broken strands between the American Negroes and African culture, began to search for documentation that might authenticate the narrative. It took ten years and a half a million miles of travel across three continents to find it, but finally, in an astonishing feat of genealogical detective work, he discovered not only the name of "the African" - Kunta Kinte - but the precise location of Juffure, the very village in The Gambia, West Africa, from which he was abducted in 1767 at the age of sixteen and taken on the Lord Ligonier to Maryland and sold to a Virginia planter. This paper aims at going deep into the born episodes of Roots together with Haley's life full of vicissitudes.

Othello is a play in which the proud main character falls into a scheme and is deceived. Essentially Othello will not be shaken easily but he is confused by lago's evil plan. After struggling in confusion, he kills his wife. This work can be viewed as a battle between good and evil or God and the devil. There is a conflict between Desdemona who believes in God and follows the doctrine of agape love and lago who is like an incarnation of the devil. This work is a tragedy of a person who lives between two extremely different structures, agape love and reasoning (Umeda 1985). Desdemona lives for agape love, on the other hand lago lives for cruel rationalizing. Othello is the person who hangs between them and to cap it all his dear's death wakes his agape love again. In this paper, I would like to deliberate the relative image of two characters in Ohello and biblical quotation, focusing on devilish lago who, it is not too much to say, he is the leading character and Desdemona who lives life to the full for agape love.

本稿は,在日の済州島出身者の方に,解放直後の生活体験を伺うインタビュー調査の第4回報告である。かつて私たちは3回分の調査報告を『大阪産業大学論集人文科学編』第102~105号(2000年10月,2001年2月,6月,10月)に掲載したが,メンバーの就職,留学などの事情でしばらく活動を中断していた。その後,2005年より新しいメンバーを加えて調査を再開させることができ,その最初の成果が本稿ということになる。なおこの調査の目的や方法などは,「解放直後・在日済州島出身者の生活史調査(1・上)」前掲『大阪産業大学論集人文科学編』第102号,に掲載しているので,ご参照いただきたい。今回の記録は,東大阪市在住の李健三さん(仮名)のお話をまとめたものである。李さんは1937年,大阪市のお生まれだが,ご両親は,韓国・済州道済州市朝天邑新村里(現行の行政地名)のご出身である。また,インタビューには妻の張玉蓮さんが同席してくださった。張さんは1934年,済州道済州市禾北洞(現行の行政地名)のお生まれである。(済州道は2006年7月1日より「済州特別自治道」となり,北済州郡は済州市に,また南済州郡は西帰浦市に統合された。したがって現行の行政地名は,前3回の調査報告時から変更されている場合がある。)インタビューは2006年4月29日,東大阪市の李さんのご自宅で,藤永壯・高正子・伊地知紀子・鄭雅英・皇甫佳英・高村竜平・福本拓・塚原理夢の8名が聞き手となって実施し,これに村上尚子が加わって,テープ起こしと第1次編集をおこなった。李さん,張さんに第1次編集原稿をチェックしていただき,テープ起こしに際しての不明箇所を確認するため,2007年2月19日,藤永が再度李さん宅を訪問した。鄭と伊地知が全体の整理と校正,村上と藤永が用語解説,鄭と高がルビ校正,福本が参考地図の作成,藤永が最終チェックを担当した。なお李さん,張さんご夫妻の三女・李陽子さんには,インタビューに同席していただき,確認作業でも多大なご協力をいただいたため,記録者の一員としてお名前を掲載させていただくことにした。以下,凡例的事項を箇条書きにしておく。(1)本文中,文脈からの推測が難しくて誤解が発生しそうな場合や,補助的な解説が必要な場合は,[ ]で説明を挿入した。(2)とくに重要な歴史用語などには初出の際*を付し,本文の終わりに解説を載せた。なお前3回の調査報告からかなり時日が経過しているため,今回は以前掲載した用語も再掲することとした。(3)朝鮮語で語られた言葉は,一般的な単語や固有名詞などの場合には漢字やカタカナで,特殊な単語や文章の場合はハングルで表記し,日本語のルビをふった。(4)インタビューの際に生じたインタビュアー側の笑いや驚きなどについては,〈〉で挿入した。
