Peter Behrens (1868-1940) was a leading pre-modern designer in Germany. As the character designer that has left the greatest footsteps in this field, his most memorial work is the democratic slogan "For the German People" sculpted on the Federal Parliament Building in Berlin. Behrens attempted new artistic methodologies during the transformation period in German Culture as the "person to meet demands of the time". His paper, "FromDevelopment of Character" published in 1902 emphasized that characters symbolize the times as so with architecture and therefore serve as a clearmental indicator of ethnicities. This paper focuses on 4 fonts to clarify Behrens' effort in character design.

That can make it up through communication with physical experience and appreciate the feeling. Above these less experience make students immature for self-formation also undevelopping creativities. This treatise, as a part of a study of European typefaces, is to take the problems on classification of typefaces in consideration. It is a study on the typeface called the "TUSCAN Letter", and is to consider what typeface the "TUSCAN Letter" is, the derivation of its appellation, its formal feature, and comparison concerning form with other typefaces. Hitherto this name, the "TUSCAN Letter", has not been used in Japan and it is indefinite as regards classification, therefore, upon this, by presenting the "TUSCAN Letter" as Japanese appellation I wish to arouse attention and consideration among knowledgeable people.

This research has three purposes. The first one is to research and classify the Japanese fonts now available in order to list them in a specimen that can be used for choosing fonts for printing and such. The second purpose is to make a comparison between the new classifications and conventional ones. The third purpose is to add new categories from digital fonts that are newly put into use to the conventional one. The resuls of this research show that the number of Japanese fonts has increased, and also that the number of categories into which Japanese fonts are classified has increased.

An experiment was done in one grid shaped street and one irregularly twisted street. There were two ways to memorize forms in the experiment : a real walk through the pathway or a CG animation presented walk through the same pathway. After memorizing the course, the subject walked the pathway by himself. The subjects were 40(25 males and 15 females). As a result of analyzing the distance and angle errors on thecongnitive maps, it was recognized that the written lengths, concerning both gender, are smaller than the actual distances. Concerning a real walk through the irregularly twisted street, females angle errors which reference line and the line which each corner connected the starting point make were smallest.
