A mature medusa of Laodicea undulata collected at Okinawa Island, Japan, displayed life cycle reversion, i. e. direct transformation to the polyp stage. The morphology of the reverted polyp is briefly described. This species appears to be the second potentially immortal animal in the Metazoa, after another hydromedusa Turritopsis nutricula, although the present polyp colony, comprising a maximum of 4 zooids despite a wide extension of stolons, degenerated after 5 months without producing a new generation of medusae.

Fresh-water hydromedusae, Craspedacusta sowerbyi Lankester (Hydrozoa, Limnomedusae, Ohndiidae), were found in three ponds and a dam reservoir in Tanabe city and Shirahama town, Wakayama Prefecture, between the years 1996 and 2006. The morphology of mature female and male medusae, nematocysts in the tentacles, and sperm is described. The biggest medusa was 22 mm in diameter with a large number oftentacles, up to 514 in several circlets. The present specimens are larger and more complicated in morphology than those of the same species described from China and Korea, while specimens with many more tentacles (up to ca 700) have been reported from other prefectures in Japan. The present specimens did not display parthenogenesis.

In middle of March, 2013 tiny Turritopsis polyps were found on a body of a crab Tiarinia cornigera for the first time from Shirahama, Wakayama Prefecure, Japan. Several zooids were cultured for several months, then many Turritopsis medusae were released from well-developed colonies. Young medusae can rejuvenate to the polyp soon.
