We investigated the acoustical characteristic of the sounds of crickets and its physiological and psychological effect on Japanese people. The sounds of crickets belonging to Family Grylloidae were grouped into 3 clusters by using the acoustical characteristics of the sounds. For this study, 3 Grylloidae species and 2 Tettigoniidae species were selected, and the sounds were recorded in a dark room. The psychological effect, i.e., pleasantness, was investigated by administering a questionnaire, which was based on the Semantic differential (SD) method. The comfort provided by the sounds was estimated on the basis of the findings on electroencephalograms in terms of an increase in the alpha wave. From the results of the questionnaire, people preferred the sound of crickets belonging to Family Grylloidae, rather than to those of crickets belonging to Family Tettigoniidae. It seemed that there was a deep relationship between the generation of alpha wave and the duration of the silent time within the sequential sounds. On the other hand, the rate of alpha wave increase in each species was not in good agreement with the results of the questionnaire, suggesting that further study is requires to understand the relationships between psychological and physiological effect on the human's Kansei. Finally, we proposed the effective presentation of the pleasant cricket sounds.

本申請課題では, 要素技術として確立した知識を総合的に融合して, 住空間だけでなく福祉施設や病院などの医療施設・ホスピス等に, 自然や生物情報に基づいた(模した)サステイナブルかつ省エネルギーな快適(癒し)空間の設計指針を提供することを最終目標として研究を行ってきた. そのために, 昆虫類の活動特性や人の感性におよぼす影響を解析した. また, マイクロバブルの気泡発生に関わる物理特性を解明し, より細かくかつ大量の気泡発生について検討を行った. さらに, 風車を用いた発電におけるゆらぎ現象や, 風車の回転時に生じる不快音の調査を行って, より効率的かつ住環境に配慮した風車の配置・運転について提案した.

In many cricket species, male crickets sing a specific song to call female crickets, and Japanese people have felt their songs tasteful and one of the seasonal scenes. This study investigated the relation between the songs and human mind and considered how people feel the songs. Three different species, Homoeogryllus japonicus, Teleogryllus emma and Oecanthus indicus, were used for this study, and the specific songs were statistically analyzed. When fluctuation pattern of the songs were analyzed, a 1/f mode was often seen at the range of low frequency regions of power-spectrum, suggesting that the songs are pleasant. Then, the impressions of the songs were investigated with SD-method, and the results of factor analysis showed that the songs gave pleasantness to people. Especially, people felt comfortableness to the sound and rhythm of H. japonicus and T. emma song. We finally conclude that these songs remember people some natural scene and gives a pleasantness.

We investigated the RGB and XYZ components of the natural colors (two cherry blossoms, i.e., Someiyoshino and Youkou, and the emission of Heike-firefly), and the physiological effects on Japanese and foreign people were compared. The natural colors were digitally measured as RGB colors, and then they were used as color stimuli. The psychological effects were investigated by administering a questionnaire, which was based on the Semantic differential (SD) method. From the results of the questionnaire, the degrees of expression for the natural colors were quite different between Japanese and foreigners. The kansei on the natural colors between Japanese and foreigners were also different in terms of psychophysical quantity and physical cognition. The results of factor analysis showed that the color of Youkou gave pleasantness to Japanese people, whereas the colors of Someiyoshino and firefly gave pleasantness to foreign people.
