"The effects of temperature and aging on the performance of an A8-3 Estes model rocket engine were investigated.Thrust generated by this engine was measured using a strain gauge force sensor at different initialtemperatures (0, 25, and 35°C). Engine peak thrust and impulse were found to be increasing functions of temperature,with sensitivity coefficients of 0.022 N/K and 0.0054 Ns/K, respectively. The increase in the peak thrust isexplainable by the characteristics of pyrotechnics; however, the increase in the impulse is abnormal. This abnormalitycan be attributed to the increased exhaust gas flow from the delay charge due to the enhanced burning rateof the propellant. The effect of aging was also studied by conducting experiments using 1-, 5-, and 15-year-old A8-3model rocket engines. Impulse variation was small; however, there were large variations in the peak thrusts of theolder engines. These variations can be ascribed to cracks on the propellant surface caused by heat cycles duringlong-term propellant storage."

The Japan International Birdman Rally has been held at Lake Biwa since 1977. Our team of TokyoMetropolitan College of Industrial Technology (CIT) participates in the glider section of this Rally since 1999. Asadvanced control techniques are required for the purpose of further extension of flight performance of the glider, apilot training system is necessary. On the other hand, a flight simulator for educational purposes has been developedat the Aerospace Engineering Course of CIT. By utilizing this simulator, the glider flight simulator for BirdmanRally has been manufactured. The development, primary functions and future topics of the simulator aresummarized in this paper.

現在の中等国語教育(中・高)においては古典教材に依って文語文を教えているが、そこには言語教育の一環としての文語教育の観点はなく、古典教育の観点があるのみである。古典を教えることと文語文を教えることとの違いは何か、なぜこの両者を分けて考える必要があるのかについて、現に行われている教科書の教材や教室における実状を参照しながら考察を試みたい。

In Tokyo Metropolitan College of Industrial Technology, we accept industrial high school graduates as the fourth grader after an entrance exam. In spite of their desire, they cannot help themselves out of having a hard time because of discontinuity between industrial high school mathematics and technical college mathematics. We have to intend a mathematics course as an appropriate help for them and develop appropriate teaching materials.

Reducio ad absurdum (RAA) is a typical method of proving in mathematics. In aproof by RAA, however, once we put false assumptions, it is hard to distiguish true propositionsfrom other propositions in the following part of the proof. On the other hand, all intermediatepropositions in a direct proof are true and mathematically understandable. Therefore, fromeducational point of view, it is very fruitful to write proofs without RAA. By rewriting theproof by RAA into a direct one, moreover, we sometimes get more general theorem than theoriginal one. In this paper, we introduce a logical system (WNK) which is free from RAA.The proof diagrams of WNK allow plural conclusions as well as plural assumptions, whichmakes the proof diagrams simple. Moreover, we show that proofs of WNK can be plannedefficiently by using `sequents' like in Gentzen's LK.

Cooperateive learning and PBL ( project based learning or problem based learning ) attract attention because the effect of these methods is said to be high. In this paper, the author tries to consider why they are effective. Cooperative learning and PBL are based on group work. The group work was deveroped by the educational method of the Boy Scouts ( called by the Scout Method ). Therefore, it can be said that the essence of cooperative learning and PBL are understood by analyzing the Scout Method. We will consider the essence of the Scout Method. Furthemore, the author reports a trial of the lesson improvement based on the Scout Method.
