The present research investigated the relations among praise behaviors, understanding of the applied behavior analysis (ABA), and years of experiences. The participants were 68 teachers who are working as a teacher in charge of a normal class in public elementary schools. The results showed that the more the teachers had knowledge of ABA, the more they provided praise to their students. Experience teachers showed less knowledge of ABA and praise behaviors relative to new young teachers. These results suggest that it is important to provide more effective methods to spread ABA knowledge for teachers.

Renewal of conditioned fear by changing contexts after extinction was explored in an experiment with rats' lick suppression preparation. After repeated pairing of a tone with an electric shock in one chamber (Context A), conditioned fear to the tone was extinguished in the other chamber (Context B) on the water licking baseline. Return to the original chamber renewed the conditioned fear (ABA renewal effect). It was also found that shifting to Context B after both conditioning and extinction in Context A resulted in a brief recovery of the conditioned fear (AAB renewal effect). Implications for relapse of phobia after behavioral therapeutic treatments, such as flooding and systematic desensitization, were discussed.

Animal behavior in the irrelevant situation has been paid little attention in contrast to that in the relevant situation, i. e., typical conditioning researches. The present article reviewed the researches using the “dual-training paradigm” for investigating the animal behavior in the irrelevant situation which includes “learned irrelevance” and “learned helplessness” phenomena. To classify the researches, three criteria were applied; type of training (S-S* or R-S*), type of S* (aversive or appetitive), and type of contingency (+, -, or 0). The classification made it clear the direction of investigation.
