This paper focuses to figure out the ideological trend of Chinese contemporary architects in the process of modernization and socialist transformation of traditional architectural culture by means of analyses of architects discours published in "the Architectural Journal" in the 1950-1970s, which is often called as "the Period of Chairman Mao". Refering to the method of linguistics, the keywords of discours and its frequency used in architectural papers are indexed and counted by subjects, and then be classified into several categories in accordance with the axes of "social background-architecture-culture" and "architectural ontology-methodology-artistry". Through construction and transformation investigation, it is found that architectural thoughts in that period are based on the government policy, i. e., the combination of "function, economy and beauty" in architecture, and the criterion of these is socialism ideology and political propaganda. According to the movement of focuses of architects' discours following the pressure of ideology and mass movement, this period can be divided into 6 phases.

Architectural space is composed by the interrelationship of three elements; relationship between interior space and exterior space which created the space by putting the wall, relationship between interior space and interior space which is based on arrangement and expanse of room and wall and human being who enjoy two relationships and move in it. So to speak, the architectural design is pursuit of the interrelationship of three elements, and what were created by the behavior are the outline, zone, and path. On this research, we define three kind of factor, outline which expanse to exterior space, zone, which means continuity of rooms and path which means positioning of various buildings. Furthermore, we analyze by comparison of those factors and consider the interrelationship of three elements.

Building alterations often occur when the buildings ought to be updated to meet new standards. In such processes, original values of existing buildings tend to be neglected in favor of hasty demolitions and economic benefits from aggressive alterations. In this research, we will investigate the mechanism of architectural alterations that respect the value of existing buildings. It will help uncover the successive values of buildings that are to be preserved rather than imminently demolished.

This research focuses on the feeling of depth which is provided by two-dimensional images, not by real three-dimensional space. In late years the media which projects three-dimensional space on a two-dimensional image are increasing, for example photographs, movies, computer graphic perspective images, virtual reality systems and so on. From these two-dimensional images, human beings understand the three-dimensional space which caused the images. In doing so, Pictorial Cue has big influence on understanding the depth of the space. It points judgment materials of depth which is provided by a picture, for example size of an object. And, depending on the cue, overestimate or underestimate of depth of the space that was expressed on two-dimensional images can happen. In this research, we make a perceptual experiment with two-dimensional images which present primitive pictorial cue, and analyze the relationship.

The study is based on the idea which is “Space enclosure” that encloses persons three dimensionally. The main purpose of the study reveals spatial characters of tea rooms which are very small but have colorful compositions. Also “Sight-Depth” is used to calculate three dimensional spatial compositions mathematically. Following explanations are the procedure to analysis.1. Making digital models by CAD2. Setting up the measurement positions in tea rooms and then calculates three dimensional compositions.3. Making Self-Organizing-Maps based on the data of second step.4. Making spatial descriptions.5. Building up phylogenetic tree based on the spatial descriptions and then analyzes the tree.

In this study, we aim at the characterization of "Space/Image" of film, which changes dramatically with the passage of the scene in two-dimensional images in particular. As well as we investigate how the historical architects or urbanists have treated the climate, the religion, the politics, the society, the current of the times in architecture and city and how film directors or cameramen design space in movie with various resources and compositions. There are many components of movies that create the images in the films. The components include natural materials, artificial materials, inside and outside settings of living creatures as well as other creatures, colors, and Depth on Images. In this paper, we emphasize the field of Depth that is the main factor of the difference between actual three-dimensional space and two-dimensional images from an architectural point of view. The subjects of this paper are two films, "Summer Time" and "Death in Venice."
