Gender Identity Disorder (GID) has been attracting social attention in Japan since 1998, when Sex Reassignment Surgery (SRS) was officially approved by Saitama Medical School. It may occur that the number of GID patients will increase. However, many Japanese GID patients are still distressed by the hostility and misunderstandings. Many GID patients have experiences of school refusal, suicidal ideation, or other psychiatric illnesses. Taking these distresses into account, more psychological and social supports for GID patients are necessary in order for them to live with satisfaction. In the paper, we would like to introduce current psychological studies both in Japan and in the world, most of which were written in the 21st century and some of which referred to "transgender." Examining these studies, it appears that psychologists and psychotherapists will have to explore more (1) psychological and social support for students with GID in school, (2) psychological change after SRS, (3) psychological interventions for couples when the other confesses his or her GID, (4) psychological change in real life experience and psychological support for GID patients, and (5) studies on mental health of aging GID patients.

The Diary of a Young Girl written by Anne Frank (June 12, 1929-February/March 1945) in the "Secret Annex" of an old office building in Amsterdam is a truly remarkable book. In her diary, on Saturday, November 27, 1943, she wrote: "Yesterday evening, before I fell asleep, who should suddenly appear before my eyes but Lies! I saw her in front of me, clothed in rags, her face thin and worn. Her eyes were very big and she looked so sadly and reproachfully at me that I could read in her eyes, 'Oh, Anne, why have you deserted me?'" (quoted from Anne Frank: The diary of a young girl, translated from the Dutch by B. M. Mooyaart, 1967, Doubleday, p.119) "Lies" is Hanna Pick-Goslar whom Anne affectionately called as "Hanneli". In order to examine the meaning of Anne's hypnagogic hallucination in Analysis of an Anne Frank's Hypnagogic Hallucination in Which her Close Friend Hanneli Goslar Appears (2), the paper describes Anne Frank's life history, her personality, and the relationship between Anne Frank and Hanneli Goslar.

In Japan it has been said that the animal which eats foul dreams or nightmares is mo 貘(Baku). However, as clearly noted in Hou Han shu 後漢書, the chinese dream-eating animal was Po-ch'i 伯奇(Hakki). Chinese mo had eaten iron, copper and snakes instead of dreams. Needless to say, in the transmission of any image of magical creature, deletions, accretions, and other alterations are inevitable. In the paper the author tries to conduct research on the apparent confusion of Po-ch'i and mo.

School counselors encounter with many problems in elementary schools, junior high schools and high schools. Of all problems, the issue of suicide is most difficult to deal with. Statistically speaking, suicide is committed by children of ten years and over. Children of nine years and under rarely kill themselves. A suicide has a very powerful effect on the school staff and on the other students. In the paper, based upon the author's clinical experiences, newspaper articles about suicide and other researchers' opinions, he (1) outlines features of suicide among children and adolescents ; (2) describes the risk factors for suicide, warning signs for suicide, depression among children and clustered suicide in puberty ; and (3) especially from a practical viewpoint as a school counselor, discusses the prevention, intervention and postvention for suicide in school settings.
