1991-2007年に富山県においてフランネルによるマダニ採集を行い,3,562個体のマダニ類を採集した.これらのマダニ類は次の2属9種に分類された:キチマダニHaemaphysalis flava,ヤマトチマダニH.japonica,ヒゲナガチマダニH.kitaokai,フタトゲチマダニH.longicornis,オオトゲチマダニH.megaspinosa,ヒトツトゲマダニIxodes monospinosus,タネガタマダニI.nipponensis,ヤマトマダニI.ovatus,シュルツェマダニI.persulcatus.ヤマトマダニは標高401m以上の地域における最優占種で,それより低い標高域においても少なからぬ密度で分布することが示された.キチマダニは標高400m以下の地域における最優占種であった.ヒゲナガチマダニ,オオトゲチマダニ,およびヒトツトゲマダニを富山県から初めて記録した.ヒトツトゲマダニからRickettsia helveticaの近縁リケッチアが検出され,富山県における紅斑熱患者発生の可能性が示された.

Since 1995, we have conducted the research for the control of Ororo-tabanidfly, Hirosia iyoensis at some mountainous areas in Toyama Prefecture, central part of Japan, where a great number of Ororo-tabanidflies occur every year. The effect of traps baited with CO_2 gas to H. iyoensis was studied. These canopy traps were effective in mass-capturing Ororo- tabanidflies. The performance of pyrethroid insecticides and a repellent were also investigated. Pyrethrum extract, pyrethrin and prallethrin showed fast knock down effects against Ororo-tabanidflies. And, also deet had a repellent action.

From 1988 to 1993,we studied anti-invading methods against the brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha mista, in houses at several locations in Toyama Prefecture, Japan, where a great number of the bugs in overwintering flight has been observed every year. The "slit-trap" was proved to be effective as an attractant for the bugs. When several traps were set around a building, the number of invading bugs into the building apparently decreased. The application of concentrated cyphenothrin and the laying of a cyphenothrin-treated polyethylene sheet to window-frames were also effective to prevent the invasion of the bugs. These preventive measures were almost 100% effective in reinforced concrete buildings such as modern hotels, whereas the number of invading bugs to wooden houses only slightly decreased. Covering wooden houses with cyphenothrin-treated nets was effective to prevent the invasion of the bugs. The application of repellent (Deet) to window-frames was also effective.
