Some school buildings of a circular type are demolished at present. A purpose of this study is to historically position a circular type of school building which spread in showa 30's. This paper clarifies reasons why the type spread and declined. Specially the theory is developed about an architect Kanao Sakamoto who advocated the type on paper. The reasons why it spread are as follows. 1. It became feasible to construct it legally, economically and technologically. 2. The theory of Mr. Sakamoto met the needs of the times. 3. He designed many buildings of the type. 4. The type was acknowledged as one of the current against a standardized plan of school building. The reasons why it declined are as follows. 1. The type designed by other architects were criticized. 2. The type designed by Mr. Sakamoto became another standardized plan. 3. The newer stream, which laid stress on activity and life of children, became the main.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the theories of body culture for Le Corbusier and Pierre Winter, his collaborator, and the relation between them and their architectural theories. This paper deals with Le Corbusier's theory in the 1930's. He proposed a daily exercise for health in the Radiant City (1930) and a solution to a problem of a spectator sports in the 100,000-seat stadium (1936). Furthermore he expressed his profound understanding about life. This is an underlying thought of his projects for the space of body culture.

A purpose of this paper is to clarify the present conditions of the town house called machiya left in the old townspeople’s district in the central city area of Yatsushiro-shi. There are 986 buildings. This paper makes clear that about 37% of buildings do a form of machiya among all these buildings. People have the impression that there are few traditional buildings. One of the reasons is because the facades of about 27% of all machiyas were repaired. We study one of those machiyas with a measurement survey and a hearing survey. Based on the result, we make the restoration drawing of the machiya of the begining of the Showa era and report the architectural characteristics. We will think that we can clarify a characteristic of the machiya of the central city area of Yatsushiro-shi by investigating other machiyas in future.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the theories of body culture for Le Corbusier and Pierre Winter, his collaborator, and the relation between them and their architectural theories. This paper analyzes housing works of Le Corbusier in the 1920's from the view point of body culture. Body culture for him was a way obeying hygiene for health in the first expression. But at once a room for sports was created. In his works after 1925, a room for sports was placed outside below the sun. This room is suitable for Pierre Winter's concept'le Corps Nouveau'.
