今後活発になると思われるアジアワイドなソフトウェア開発プロジェクトにおける,機械翻訳を用いた協調作業支援ツールへの要求条件を述べる.問題点を明らかにするために,日中韓馬の4カ国,5大学の教員,学生40人余からなるオープンソースフトウェア開発を延べ16週間実施し,多言語の掲示板と文書共有ツールを提供し,その利用形態を観察した.得られた知見は以下のとおりである.1)機械翻訳は正確な意思伝達を支える十分な品質を持たないが,それにもかかわらず参加者は他の参加者とのコミュニケーションのためには努力を惜しまない.また,2)多言語環境においてはコミュニケーションの局所性が存在し,自言語の参加者と他言語の参加者に対するコミュニケーションの態度が異なる.さらに,3)多言語分散環境におけるソフトウェア開発においては,ソフトウェアの概要を決定する設計の初期段階での機械翻訳利用は有効であるが,モジュール機能を詳細に決定する設計の詳細化段階のコミュニケーションは困難がある.これらの知見に基づき,機械翻訳を用いた協調作業には,1)機械翻訳を利用した参加者の努力を支援するためのインタラクションを考慮した翻訳システム,2)他言語の参加者に対するアウェアネスの維持,および3)特に概要設計からモジュール設計に至る設計段階での協調作業の支援が必要であることが明らかになった.In this paper, we discuss the technological aspects of intercultural collaboration. We suggest the intercultural collaboration via machine translations to develop in the members' first languages. To determine the problems, we had conducted an Asia-wide software development experiment in multilingual environments, ICE2002. The observation showed that (1) the members pay great effort to communicate with other members via the noisy translations, (2) members change the behaviour to the members of the same culture and different cultures, and (3) the software development in a lean and noisy media constrains the detailed design to be difficult. We suggest the implementation of the intercultural collaboration support tools with the following requirements: (1) interactive translation to support the effort for the communication, (2) awareness to other language members according to the psychological localities, and (3) support method for software design phase.
