Poemas árticos of Vicente Huidobro is one of the most influential works in the evolution of avant-garde poetry in Spain and Hispanic American countries, especially the former post-1918, when the Chilean poet visited its capital, frequented 'tertulias' of the leading literary figures of the time, such as Cansinos-Assens and Ramon Gomez de la Serna and kept an apartment in Madrid. At the same time, Huidobro 's own poetry enjoyed considerable success among young Spanish poets such as Gerargo Diego and Juan Larrea, encouraging them to compose poems based on the new esthetics, which were mainly elaborated by Parisian artists, but also reflected in Huidobro's own poetics of Creationism. Guillermo de Torre, future critic of avant-garde literature and founder of the Ultraismo, the principal avantgarde movement in Spanish literature, is a case in point. In this brief article, we cite the testimony of scholars such as Rene de Costa and Cedmil Goic, as well as the above-mentioned writers and poets, concerning Huidobro's stay in Madrid and the publication of his book and in light of this evidence, propose a reevaluation of creationist poetry.

Ecuatorial (equatorial) is a long poem typical of the period when it was released in 1918 by Vicente Huidobro, the Chilean poet famous for his vanguard poem in Spanish, "Altazor." After he went to Europe in 1916 Huidobro wrote poems in French and aggressively pursued 'creacionismo' (creationism) – in other words, cubism in poems, at least at that time – in progressive works such as "Horizon carré" (square horizon). But with 'Ecuatorial' he returned to using Spanish. This work, which occasioned all kinds of praise and censure because of their experimentation, is heavily tinged with the anxiety people felt due to by World War I. This paper discusses the meaning of the title of the poem and then clarifies what "Ecuatorial" intends to say based on the hint derived from the image that the word "airplane" bears in this poem.

Vicente Huidobro, que nacio en 1893 en Santiago de Chile y murio en 1948 en Cartagena, es conocido como autor de Altazor, una de las obras cumbre del vanguardismo hispanoamericano. Comenzo a escribir poemas bajo la influencia del modernismo que presidia Ruben Dario, poeta nicaraguense. En 1916 Huidobro viajo a Argentina y a los paises de Europa, escapando de los ambientes intelectuales muy cerrados de Chile. En Buenos Aires dio una conferencia, en la cual por primera vez se refirio a la idea del ≪creacionismo≫ que fundaria mas tarde. Los ultimos meses de aquel ano visito Madrid y Paris. Se instalo en la Ciudad de la Luz, donde se habian reunido muchos poetas, pintores, musicos, que eran simpatizantes o al menos aficionados al arte vanguardista. Huidobro trabo amistad con Pierre Reverdy, Pablo Picasso y Juan Gris, entre otros. Tres anos despues se traslado de Paris a Madrid presionado por la amenaza de la Primera Guerra Mundial. Alli vio el ≪ultraismo≫ naciente en la tertulia del Cafe Colonial bajo la tutela de Rafael Cansinos-Assens, escritor espanol. En este breve articulo investigamos lo que pensaba y deseaba realizar Huidobro, siguiendo sus actividades en la decada de 1910 y tambien a traves de la lectura de algunos de sus poemas de aquella epoca.
