The H-IIA and H-IIB launch vehicle is a Japan's flagship satellite launcher developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The development of the H-IIA started in 1996 as a successor to the former H-II rocket. The first launch was made successfully in 2001 but it encountered its first-ever failure in 2003. This was followed, however, by the successful launch of the new and improved No. 7 launch vehicle in 2005, which once again has set the H-IIA rocket on the path as Japan's flagship launch vehicle. After that we achieved seven continuous success by No. 13 launch vehicle in 2007. Also the development of the H-IIB launch vehicle in under going. The H-IIB will launch the HTV to carry cargos to the International Space Station. Maiden flight of the H-IIB is scheduled in 2009.
