A Study of Childcare Problems for a Hearing Impaired Couple: Research Analysis Using the Trajectory Equifinality Model (TEM)Chiaki SATO and Hitomi YOSHIDAAs part of the effort toward child-rearing support in Japan, the reform of men’s work styles has gained attention, in addition to support for women’s work-family balance. However, child-rearing support for parents with disabilities is far from sufficient.Through a qualitative survey administered to a child-rearing husband and a wife with hearing impairment, this article aims to reveal issues in their lives and to explore how child-rearing support should be provided for parents with disabilities. The results were analyzed using the Trajectory Equifinality Model (TEM). The analysis revealed that close support from the wife’s side of the family was critical for the hearing impaired couple in raising children. Further, issues regarding future child-rearing support included the following: first, accessibility to essential child-rearing support service for people with hearing impairment; second, support measures that do not depend on the families of child-rearing parents must be sought; third, companies must undergo fundamental reform regarding working conditions and attitudes toward work; finally, family-friendly local communities must be fostered.
