The annual reproductive cycle, including the first maturity of ovarian development and plasma levels of testosterone (T) and estradiol-17β (E2), was examined in female Japanese catfish Silurus asotus reared under natural conditions. In addition, the possible period that final oocyte maturation and ovulation can be induced by human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) injection were investigated. Results showed that female Japanese catfish matured 1 year after hatching under reared conditions. The beginning of vitellogenesis was in March and ovarian development and plasma T and E2 levels peaked in June. Thereafter, the gonadosomatic index gradually decreased to October and regression of oocytes at the tertiary yolk globule stage was observed. Female Japanese catfish could be induced to final oocyte maturation and ovulation by hCG treatment during the period from June to September. In addition, the fertilization rates were relatively high and stable during this period. These results suggest that yearling female Japanese catfish can be used as brood stock for seed production. This is the first study to investigate the annual reproductive cycle in Japanese catfish. These data will provide useful information regarding brood stock management and seed production.

Asymmetric hydrolysis of 2, 2-bis (acetoxymethyl) cyclopentanone (5) using biocatalysts and its application to a formal synthesis of (-)-malyngolide are described.For the asymmetric induction at the quaternary carbon of 5, cholinesterase from electric eel was found to be effective to afford the (+)-monoacetate (6)(90%ee).Compound (+)-6 was easily converted to the synthetic intermediate (28) for (-)-malyngolide.

"ライプニッツのcaritas 概念は、一方で伝統的なキリスト教の立場に、他方で十七世紀の啓蒙主義の時代思潮にそれぞれ連続する面を有する。「正義とは賢者の慈愛である」(Justitia est caritassapientis)、そして「慈愛とは普遍的善意(benevolentia universalis)である」というライプニッツの定義には、キリスト教的な「善き意志」のモチーフとともに、(プラトニズム起源のものだけではない)近代の合理主義的性格が見出される。ライプニッツは彼の政治学、ないし政治哲学の中心にこのcaritas 概念をすえている。それは彼の「社会」(societas)概念とも密接にリンクしつつ、今日の社会福祉論への射程を示唆する。ライプニッツの「慈愛」、「幸福」、「福祉」(Wohlfahrt)という一連の概念のもつ広がりは、アカデミー版第四系列第一巻に収載されている、マインツ期の覚書や計画書に記載された具体的な福祉政策(貧困対策、孤児・浮浪者救済、授産施設、福利厚生など)に見ることができる。しかしcaritas 概念の内包を改めて検討するならば、caritas 概念の普遍性と必然性は、その最も根底においては、ライプニッツの「個体的実体(モナド)」の形而上学に基礎づけられている、ということが明らかになるであろう。

Microbial reduction of 7-methoxycarbonyl bicyclo[4. 3. 0]non-3-en-8-one ((±)-3) afforded the optically active (-)-3, which was efficiently converted by ring contraction using thallium (III) nitrate to the intermediate (11) used to synthesize carbacyclin (1).

The conversion of (+) -limonen-10-ol (7) into the key intermediate for the synthesis of carbacyclin (1), (+) - (1S, 2R, 3R, 5R) -3-acetoxy-2-methoxycarbony1-7-oxobicyclo [3.3.0] octane (2), is described. The cis-3, 4-disubstituted cyclopentanone prepared from 7 via a sequence of reactions involving Rh (I) -catalyzed cyclization could be converted to the 3-acetylbicyclo [3.3.0] oct-2-ene skeleton, which was subjected to 1, 4-addition reaction with CN-. The resulting cyano compound was transformed into the key intermediate 2 through appropriate modification of the substituents on the five-membered ring. This synthetic method provides a new route to carbacyclin.

Asymmetric synthesis of platelet-activating factor (PAF) and its enantiomer by using biocatalysts was studied. Microbial reduction of the pro-chiral α-ketoester (3) afforded (+) -4 (> 99% ee), which could be converted to (+) -and (-) -batyl alcohol (12), a key synthetic intermediate for PAF. Compound (-) -4 (96% ee), with the requisite configuration for the synthesis of natural PAF, could also be obtained by enzyme-catalyzed enantioselective hydrolysis of (±) -15.
