This study evaluates possible changes in tropical cyclone (TC) precipitation over Japan under a future warmer climate using an ensemble projection generated by a non-hydrostatic regional climate model with a resolution of 5 km (NHRCM05) under the RCP8.5 scenario. NHRCM05 reproduces TC precipitation and TC intensity more accurately than does a general circulation model with a resolution of 20 km. The number of TCs approaching Japan is projected to decrease under the future climate, while the TC precipitation rate increases. As these two effects cancel each other out, total TC precipitation, and the frequency of the moderate TC precipitation that is usual under the present climate, show no significant change. On the other hand, the frequency of extreme TC precipitation increases significantly because the intensification in the TC precipitation rate outweighs the reduction in TC frequency. The increase in the TC precipitation rate is caused primarily by the increase in water vapor around the TCs, which in turn results from the change in environmental water vapor. The intensification and structural changes to TCs also contribute to the enhanced TC precipitation.

Charge carrier concentration in operating field-effect transistor (FET) of regioregular poly(3-hexylthiophene) has been directly determined by electron spin resonance (ESR). ESR signals of field-induced polarons are observed around g=2.003 under the application of negative gate-source voltage (Vgs). Upon applying drain-source voltage (Vds), ESR intensity decreases linearly in the low Vds region, reaching to about 50% of the initial intensity at the pinch-off point (Vds~=Vgs). For larger absolute values of Vds, it becomes nearly Vds independent. These behaviors are well explained by the change in the carrier concentration obtained by the FET theory using gradual channel approximation.

To examine the genetic diversity of Sicyopterus japonicus, 448 sites of the control region of the mitochondrial DNA were analyzed in 77 specimens from the four localities of Okinawa, Kochi, Wakayama, and Shizuoka in Japan. A total of 74 haplotypes were found in the individuals examined. The same haplotypes occurred in Okinawa and Kochi, Kochi and Wakayama, and two specimens in Wakayama. The average sequence in genetic characteristics within localities varied from 1.7% in Kochi, 1.6% in Wakayama to 1.4% in Okinawa. There was no significant difference in genetic characteristics among the three locations of Wakayama, Kochi, and Okinawa (10,000 times permutation test, P>0.05). The number of specimens from Shizuoka was too small to compare to the other three locations. The neighbor-joining tree of the mitochondrial DNA haplotypes for all specimens constructed from the Kimura's two-parameter distances suggested no evidence of genetic subdivision of S. japonicus. These results suggested that this species has a single panmictic population and their larvae probably have a high dispersal ability during their oceanic stage.
