Today, we discuss separately on the ethics of the dual (typically Levinasian ethics) and on the ethics of the multiplicity (contemporary ethics since Kant). But can we discuss on the contemporary ethics without reference to the ethics of the dual? Can it treat the other essentially? It seems that Hannah Arendt answers these questions in her way. We should be discreet in treating the other in a universal manner. The ethics of the dual is superior to the ethics of the multiplicity, and the latter cannot be justified only if it is based on the former.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the situations in which the Japanese word “sumimasen” is used and to help foreigners understand this word. From the example sentences in the corpus, I analyzed these situations and I could identify nine different cases: “a situation in which the speaker negatively influences the listener”, “a situation in which the speaker is not able to perform the expected action”, “a situation in which the speaker's behavior can be detrimental to the listener”, “a situation that is undesirable for the listener”, “a situation in which the speaker forces the listener to perform an action”, “a situation in which the speaker greets the listener formally and politely”, “a situation in which the speaker draws the listener's attention as a call to action”, “a situation in which the speaker greets the listener formally and politely”, and “a situation in which the speaker searches for words as fillers in conversations”. Thus, there is a wide range of situations in which the Japanese word “sumimasen” is used in everyday communication.

In the Japanese language found on the internet, it’s not hard to find words used between parentheses, which are usually used to express the feelings and emotions of the user. However, not all of these words are directly connected to feelings and emotions despite the actual words representing specific reactions strongly linked to emotions. Sometimes these words are used to emulate a real conversation as opposed to written language on a computer by making the reader aware of how the writer is reacting to an event or opinion. In this article, the usage of such expressions is discussed from a different perspective from that of previous research, leading to the discovery of new effects such as emulating not only a real conversation, but also a conversation that can be seen as a representation of a TV scene or a picture.

This article tries to examine global weapons trade between the United States and Japan in the late 1860s. The first half of it, Chapter 1, introduces Japanese recent studies and explains the kinds and numbers of western style rifles brought into Japan in the Meiji Restoration. The second half, Chapter 2, considers a German recent Japanology (Japanologie), “The Global Weapons Trade and the Meiji Restoration: Dispersion of Means of Violence in a World of Emerging Nation-States” written by Harald Fuess. As a result of it, Chap. 2 unravels a part of the flow of western arms within Japan at that time. The remaining subject is to unravel the whole picture of global arms transfer flows and to bridge the gap between global history and national histories.

Mountaineering based on mountain worship has long been practiced in Japan. For example, in 1751 through 1763, approximately 200,000 people visited Mount Oyama every year with both religious and recreational purposes. Mountaineering in the Edo period was conducted through the continuous involvement religious groups called 'Ko'. Small shrines (Yashiro) are placed at the summits of some mountains in Japan. In addition, some mountains have temples and shrines at their foot. Mountains are not just a place to enjoy the scenery. After the Meiji Restoration, the Wonder Vogel culture was introduced to Japan from Germany. It was active in Europe before World War II, but in Japan it spread after the War. This is one of the reasons why many university students from the 1960s to the 1980s were mountaineering enthusiasts. Mountaineering in Edo period and mountaineering in the Wonder Vogel culture after the World War II were ideologically different. In Japan, however, they have been consumed as the same purpose. From this perspective, this paper examines mountaineering tourism, using the case studies of climbing Mt Takao and Mt Tsukuba as examples.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the characteristics of the meaning of “consideration” in Japanese through a contrastive study between Japanese and Chinese. It also aims to explore the cultural background of this word, such as attentive and concern. In this study, we used a corpus to organize Chinese words corresponding to the Japanese word “consideration”. The results showed that the Chinese words “zhao gu”, “kao lü”, “jian gu”, “guan xin”, “guan zhao”, “an pai”, “guan huai”, Through the contrastive study, it was found that “consideration” in Japanese covers situations that involve the speaker, such as natural phenomena and the environment. It can be said that the speaker is paying attention to a variety of possible situations. This kind of behavior seen in the Japanese word “consideration” shows the deep consideration and attentive in Japan and Japanese culture. On the other hand, being overly concerned about this and that can cause stress.

Zac Efron, a two-time winner of MTV Movie Award for Best Shirtless Performance, objectifies his bodies in movies such as That Awkward Moments (2014), Neighbors (2014), and Dirty Grandpa (2016). Although bodies of Hollywood male stars have been portrayed as spectacles since the beginning of movies, representations of Efron’s bodies are somewhat different from those of other macho stars. The movies in which he shows his naked body are comedies on male friendships. These relationships are not gay ones. However, the characters are conscious of gay men and portray male relationships as close to homosexuality. Therefore, Efron’s body could be shown as symbolizing homoerotic desires. Moreover, the friendships in these movies lack male dominance and aggressiveness that ordinarily characterize male buddy movies. Efron appears to be enjoying his body and looks rather cute and innocent. Male audiences can easily identify themselves with him owing to these attributes. They could be muscle men without being like “wolves.” His body could be said to be a symbol of a new kind of male body of the 21st century.

Interview surveys targeting Chinese employees working for Japanese companies were conducted. As There is such a point of view in calligraphy criticism. What determines the quality of a calligrapher's work is not the work itself, but the character, character, and political position of the calligrapher. To put it another way: If the calligrapher is a noble person, then his writing must be excellent. Even if he doe s not understand calligraphy at all, it will not affect his high evaluation in the field of calligraphy. Conversely, if this person is not of good character and is not a good politician, even if his calligraphy skills are comparable to Wang Xizhi, he will not be recognized by people. I have doubts about the development and application of the above viewpoints in the field of calligraphy, which are closely related to traditional Chinese philosophical Confucianism, and whether calligraphy, which is now an independent discipline, still needs such a unified evaluation system. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to sort out from the perspective of Confucianism and the ontology of calligraphy, to explore how the above-mentioned viewpoints come into being, and the evolution process, and finally hope to make this theory more clearly affect the creative activities of calligraphy today.

This study investigates how the original meaning of words changes by adding the J Chinese Quantifier by “one”. First of all, there are three cases where this change of meaning occurs: ①Quantity representation with “one” used when expressing first appearance (person / thing) ②Quantity expression with “one” used in expressing evaluation of speaker ③Quantity expression with “one” used when expressing degree and quantity. In Chinese, when expressing the quantity of things, actions, acts, etc., the quantifier indicating a unit can be used alone, but number which counts numbers is not used alone but accompanied by That is normal. In the case of I am a student , individual is quantifier, which corresponds to Japanese. When counting the quantity, use “number + auxiliary number” in Japanese, use “number + total word” in Chinese. In this respect, it can be said that Japanese and Chinese are the same. However, the quantity expression in Chinese often appears in places where it is not necessary to use it, as seen from the usage of Japanese . This study shows the effects for the original words by adding quantifier by “one”. In addition it also investigates the features of its original word meanings.

More Chinese employees are now working at Japanese companies. However, very little is known about how these employees attempt to engage in communication at their companies. In this study, I survey the types of conflict these employees encounter with regard to systems and work-styles at Japanese companies caused by cultural differences. This survey covered eight topics: “lifetime employment,” “seniority system,” “paid leave system,” “workplace assignment/job rotation,” “reporting/contacting/consultation,” “work outside of job scope,” “reporting work mistakes,” and “unconvincing instructions.” The results of the survey show that it is difficult for Chinese employees working at Japanese companies to accept management systems such as seniority by length of service and lifetime employment. It is easier for them to accept business customs involving work-related communication, such as reporting/contacting/consultation and working outside of their job scope.

Japanese and Chinese characters “合作” are identical words, but they are not synonymous. This paper first verifies the meaning of “合作” through Japanese and Chinese dictionaries, and then clarifies the meaning and usage in Japanese based on a sample survey of Corpus and a face-to-face survey of Japanese mother speakers. Then, we will focus on the Japanese translation of Chinese “合作” and find features through the questionnaire survey of Chinese Japanese learners and Japanese Chinese learners.

The objective of this study is to find out the reasons why former Vietnamese technical intern trainees tend to choose workplace relating to Japan and keep using Japanese language even after they came back to Vietnam. Taking Vietnamese current socio-economic situation into consideration, I conducted semi-structural qualitative interview to 4 former technical intern trainees, and text data were analyzed with M-GTA method. Research shows that there is a high tendency that former technical intern trainees don’t choose jobs in which they can use their skill and knowledge that they learnt from their work experiences in Japan, but they would rather utilize their Japanese language instead to get themselves whatever jobs they like in social situation where human resource with Japanese language skill is in high demand in current Vietnamese labor market.

This study investigates how the original meaning of words changes by adding the Japanese prefixes ‘O’ or ‘Go’. First of all, there are three cases where this change of meaning occurs: ①terms related to spirits, buddhas and noblemen(Omae, Okazari, etc.) ② items from daily life (Okazu, Otama, Oshibori, etc.) and ③negative expressions(Oshyaka, Oshikise, Osomatsu, Onagare, etc.). Moreover, there are two cases where the change of meaning is limited to certain contexts: ①in daily life(Ohiya, Otsumami, Otsuri etc.) and ②in personal relationships(Otyoshimono, Ochame, Oshare, etc.). Compared to ‘O’, ‘Go’ doesn’t produce so many changes of meaning. For example, ‘Goden’, ‘Goriyaku’, ‘Gomen’, ‘Gochisou’, etc. The common link between them is an expression of respect towards elder people, but this is a feature that is shared with the use of ‘Go’ as a sign of respect towards your listener. This study shows the effects for the original words by adding prefix of ‘O’ or ‘Go’. In addition it also investigates the features of its original word meanings.

This paper examines the relationships among Haruki Murakami's running, music and his creative activities, such as novel writing. First, I describe the characteristics of Murakami's style and introduce Makino (2013)'s idea that music is what makes his style, along with Shimizu (2017)' s idea that running influences his writing. Based on these considerations, this paper introduces a theory on connecting these two assertions. It next examines the characteristics of Murakami's running in terms of exercise physiology. The results show that running produces serotonin, which greatly influences his creative activities.
