For estimation of pyrolysis reaction of resinol type linkage, syringaresinol (SR) and pinoresinol (PR) were pyrolyzed with Py-GC/MS method, and major pyrolysis products were identified by MS library and fragmentation. Pyrolysate distributions from SR and PR were similar, so considered to be subjected the same reaction mechanisms, although relativities of their methoxyl groups the aromatic rings were different. Syringyl group (from pyrolysis of SR) was changed into catechol or guaiacol by homolytic elimination of the methoxy group, while guaiacyl group (from pyrolysis of pinoresinol) was changed to cresol by rearrangement of the methoxyl group. Furthermore, these reactions for SR started at low temperature than PR.

<p>Two α-L-arabinofuranosidase genes classified in Glycoside Hydrolase (GH) family 51 from the basidiomycetes Phanerochaete chrysosporium and Flammulina velutipes were cloned, and the recombinant enzymes expressed in the yeast Pichia pastoris were characterized. When p-nitrophenyl-α-L-arabinofuranoside was used as a substrate, two enzymes showed acidic pH optima at pH 3. The two enzymes released L-arabinose from rye arabinoxylan, wheat arabinoxylan, sugar beet arabinan and debranched arabinan, but not from arabinogalactan.</p>
