This R&D aims to collect and separate aluminum-containing waste materials (general waists and industry waists), and recover highly-pure aluminum by the efficient dry distillation process. By using the cartridge system (containing the aluminum and reactant), hydrogen energy is generated for variety of applications. This system contributes the improvement of aluminum material flow and provides low-carbon solutions. In this paper, relation between concentration of NaOH and hydrogen generation rate was researched. It was found that 4% NaOH was optimum for hydrogen generation rate. Moreover the effect of inorganic salts on hydrogen generation was researched. As for the result, it was clarified that reaction liquid with FeSO4 could promote hydrogen generation.

In this paper, sound quality of high resolution audio (HRA) is investigated in the view point of auditory perception. Perceptual characteristics of HRA have been examined by listening tests compared with the standard audio CD and the compressed MPEG audio layer-3 (MP3) qualities. The listening tests were carried out by the paired comparison, and the participants were asked to discriminate among HRA, CD, and MP3. Jazz music was selected out as the original HRA. Both CD and MP3 quality audio files were prepared from the original HRA file by the authors. It is found that the participants prefer the audio format with richer information, that is, HRA is most desirable and CD is better than MP3. The questionnaires filled in by participants indicate that subjective characteristics of HRA include much presence, high spatial clarity, and wide spaciousness. Additionally, perceptual discrimination in quantization distortion is also focused on in between 16 bits and 24 bits resolution. As the result of the listening test with 28 participants, the difference of the quantization resolution was discriminated with the accuracy of 60.3 %. Concerning the perceptual discrimination of HRA, quantization resolution is an important factor as well as its wide frequency range.

Wastewater monitoring is necessary to preserve the quality of water in publicly water bodies. In particular, the presence of colored pollutants in wastewater inhibits the photosynthesis of seaweed, and therefore requires adequate treatment for its removal. We developed a surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensor for the detection of color-polluted water. Silver particles on a quartz substrate were grown via mist chemical vapor deposition; this substrate was built into the sensor to enhance its Raman-scattering signals. Aqueous solutions colored with a single dye were detected at concentrations as low as the ppb level, and the intensity of their SERS spectra decreased with the dye concentration. Additionally, we evaluated the performance of the SERS sensor using mixed dyes dissolved in river-water, making assumptions suited to practical occurrences results demonstrated that our sensor depicts the molecular features of each dye in the river-water sample, clearly detecting them at concentrations as low as the ppb level. Therefore, this study proved that SERS can be applied in an environmental spectroscopic sensor.

We propose a Multi-model CAPTCHA that is composed of one sentence with typo and multiple pictures. This CAPTCHA utilizes human's three abilities (inferring the meaning of the sentence with typo, understanding the meaning of pictures, and linking the meaning of the sentence and corresponding picture), and it is based on a hypothesis, "the longer of the sentence with typo, the time could be longer for a machine to link the meaning of the sentence and corresponding picture (= the shorter of the time of linking, the higher of the probability of human)." We found three findings from our experiment: (1) Examinees were able to link the meaning of the sentence to corresponding picture even there were some pictures with similar composition, (2) Typoglycemia is likely to be appeared on a sentence constructed by short and familiar words, (3) The time for linking was not exponentially increased even the length of the sentence was getting long (= It was not getting difficult for users in this situation).

This paper proposes a new wildlife image recognition method that combines object recognition based on deep learning and motion detection by inter-frame difference. This method makes it possible that such animal images as difficult to detect by object recognition can be detected by motion detection, and vice versa. The experimental results show the detection ratio and hit ratio are 100% and 84%, respectively, for videos including animals. Our achieved results can provide more efficient solutions for the time consuming and costly mitigation approaches to reduce human-wildlife conflicts.

Recently home healthcare has become more important due to aging population and declining birthrate. It also causes shortage of nursing home services. On the other hand, generally it is hard to find patients who have the sleep apnea syndrome (SAS) or the cardiac arrhythmia. Because those symptoms happen during sleep or sudden in everyday life. Also, it is said that patients tend to have the SAS and the cardiac arrhythmia at the same time. So sometimes they are required having diagnoses at a hospital for a long time to find the symptoms. For supporting home healthcare, many handy devices have been developed. And those usually measure a single vital sign such as heart rate. But for instance, measuring breathing rate is required to find the SAS. Or it is better to also measure heart rate at the same time for the cardiac arrhythmia which sometimes happens with the SAS. Thus, we focus on supporting home healthcare. In this paper, we show a handy device we created to diagnose multiple symptoms at the same time automatically by measuring breathing and heart rates for a long time.

We conducted an experiment to infer emotional changes induced by auditory stimulation using the pupil diameter and investigated whether the experiment could be applicable to the visually impaired people as well. The difference caused by the kind of the auditory stimulations observed in the pupil diameter of the sighted people group was also observed in the visually impaired people group in the same manner. A possibility was suggested that a pupil diameter could become an index of emotional changes in the visually impaired people as well.

The purpose of this study is to make software of equipment that detects siren sound of ambulance and to program it on a microcontroller in the equipment. By using two stages FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) on detecting, the characteristics of the siren sound could be converted into numerical values. The proposed method could detect the siren sound in which S/N ratio is approximately 0[dB]. The siren sound was detected properly even under the Doppler effect.
