The use of embryonated egg as an alternative in the study of the pathogenesis of fungi is evolving. Although murine models are the “gold standard,” embryonated egg models are also used to screen determinants of virulence among fungi species. This study was aimed at determining the virulence potential of Cryptococcus gattii strains R265, R272, and EJB18, and Malassezia sympodialis using chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) of embryonated egg. At a concentration of 107 cfu/ml, C. gattii R272 was more virulent than R265 in the egg model, while EJB18 had low virulence. The CAM model supported the growth of Malassezia sympodialis strain and induced the formation of hyphae. The formation of lesions by the organism and its re-isolation from CAM suggest that the model can be used for evaluating the virulence of C. gattii. Histopathology of CAM from both strains also revealed massive disruption of CAM. This study suggests that embryonated egg is a useful alternative tool to pre-screen Cryptococcus gattii strains to select strains for subsequent testing in murine models and could also be a potential medium for studying the hyphal growth in Malassezia species.

絶滅危惧種であるクモマツマキチョウを保全し絶滅から守るためには,定量的で効率的な飼育体系を確立する必要がある。本報告は2012年に著者らが行った本種の飼育方法と得られた飼育に関する定量的データを記載したものである。卵の採卵にはメス成虫3個体から81卵を採卵することができた。卵は75.9%が孵化した。幼虫の飼育は直方体プラスチックシャーレで行った。餌としてミヤマハタザオを与えて,個別飼育を行った。温度は20℃,日長は12L:12Dと一定にした。幼虫期の生存率は68.2%であった。1~2齢幼虫では死亡する個体が見られたが,3齢幼虫以降は1個体も死亡しなかった。幼虫期の平均日数は18.20日であった。幼虫の体長の平均は緩やかに増加し,5齢幼虫期の25.8㎜が最大であった。蛹体重は蛹化7日目で125.7㎎で時間がたつにつれて軽くなった。蛹化28日後から3つの処理期間(75日,105日,135日)で低温処理(4℃)を行った。その結果,処理期間が短いほど,処理後から羽化までの日数が長くなった。また135日の低温処理では,すべての羽化成虫が口吻が融合していない奇形だった。成虫は最長で47日間生存した。

アメリカにおけるマルチメディア通信応用とその環境はようやく形をなし始めた段階であり, 成功例はまだない.マルチメディアプラットホームとしてはApple社やIBM社がしのぎを削っている.家電領域のCD-I, CDTVはあまり成功していない.むしろコダック社のフォトCDが消費者をマルチメディアに導くきっかけになろう.動画が入り始めたゲーム機器も無視できない.一方, マルチメディア応用を支えるネットワーキングとサービスの観点でみると, 一般に広帯域回線が必要と考えられがちだが, 必ずしもそうではない.ISDN等, 新しい環境への投資がにぶる景気沈滞期にあって, パソコン, モデム, CD-ROMと既存の電話回線を組合せたサービスの可能性を過小評価できない.例えば既存電話回線を用いたテレビ電話や, 下り1.5Mb/s, 上り9.6kb/sを通すサービスなどがある.エンドユーザ応用としては, 家庭向けにはやはりエンターテイメント分野への投資が期待でき, 昨今の各社間の提携もここをねらっている.一方, ビジネス分野におけるマルチメディアの重要性は過大評価されているきらいがある.むしろ近未来市場としては, この景気沈滞期にあっても投資が落ちていない教育と訓練の分野に大きな期待ができる.

&nbsp;ヒトの乳児の泣き声(crying)は,苦痛や空腹といった何らかのニーズを非明示的にあらわすシグナルであり,ほとんどの哺乳類の乳児は泣き声をあげることで養育者から養育行動を引き出すことができる(Gustafsonら,2000;Bard,2000).アカゲザルやチンパンジーなどヒト以外の霊長類でも,ヒトほど顕著ではないが,母親を含む養育者との身体的な分離が生じたときに,乳児は distress callやscreamを発する(Bard,2000).ヒト以外の霊長類において,乳児の泣き声への応答について調べた研究は未だ少ないが,ヒトを含めた霊長類の養育行動を明らかにするためにはヒト以外の霊長類の乳児の鳴き声への応答を調べることが重要である.コモンマーモセット <i>Callithrix jacchus</i>はヒトと似た家族を社会の単位とし,協同繁殖を行う.本研究では,コモンマーモセットの乳児の泣き声が父親及び母親個体の発声行動に与える影響について調べた.被験体には,コモンマーモセット 5頭(オス 3頭,メス 2頭,6.0 ± 1.6歳)を,乳児音声刺激として被験体の実子(1-7日齢)の泣き声を(乳児条件),成体音声刺激として同じ飼育室の異なるケージで飼育されている成体個体(オス 3頭,メス 3頭,3.6± 0.64歳)の音声(phee call)を使用した(成体条件).また比較のため,無音刺激を用いた(無音条件).実験では,防音箱内に設置したテストケージへの 15分間の馴化を行ったあと,刺激提示前 5分間と刺激提示中の 5分間,刺激提示後 20分間の発声を録音した.時間と条件の 2要因について分散分析を行った結果,乳児条件では成体条件や無音条件と比較して,刺激提示終了後から 10分間にわたって発声頻度が上昇することがわかった(F = 3.543, df = 10/40, p < .01).今後は,乳児の鳴き声を聞いた親個体の神経系の応答やホルモン変化を調べ,泣き声の養育行動へ与える影響について調べたい.

During the course of synthetic studies on the 5, 6-disubsituted 4-oxo-tetrahydro-2-pyroneskeleton in connection with biologically active compounds, we have found a convenient procedure for the regioselective introduction of a double bond in methyl alkyl ketones and a novel synthetic method for indan derivatives.

<p>This research examined two works compiled by Akizato Ritō (alt. Akisato Ritō), <i>Miyako meisho-zue</i> (An Illustrated Guide to Noted Places in the Capital) and <i>Settsu meisho-zue</i> (An Illustrated Guide to Noted Places in Settsu Province). The former was a guide to sites of interest primarily in Kyoto while the latter described sites of interest in Settsu Province and Osaka.</p><p>This research had two aims. The first was to clarify how Akizato Ritō perceived the places that he selected and symbolized as 'noted places.' The second was to clarify how Akizato viewed cities and how Kyoto and Osaka were represented in guides to sites in those cities.</p><p>Akizato perceived places and symbolized those places while keeping in mind the goal of depicting places and scenes in illustrations. Although he selected traditional, long-celebrated sites of interest, he also selected places and scenery of interest from a positivist perspective based on firsthand observations.</p><p>Akizato's view of cities was based on an identity and perspective as a Kyoto resident that developed at the end of the 18^thcentury. Kyoto's image as the 'Emperor's Capital' was emphasized and the city was presented as a hallmark of tradition and sightseeing by illustrations depicting sites such as temples and shrines and manufacturing unique to Kyoto. Osaka's port and canals were often depicted in illustrations, and the city's image as Japan's first commercial city was emphasized. Osaka was presented as a city for popular entertainment in forms such as kabuki.</p>

Recent progress in regioselective carbon-carbon bond forming reactions involving “ambident substrates” has been reviewed with 308 selected references. This article is divided into two parts, Part 1 concerns the reactions of ambident nucleophiles which mainly include the di-anions of enolates and the asymmetric allylic carbanions. Part 2 involves the reactions of ambident electrophiles which are represented by α, β-unsaturated carbonyl systems, the SN 2' reactions of allylic alcohol derivatives and the epoxy compounds containing a nucleophile in the same molecule. Some plausible explanations and controlling factors of these regioselectivities are summarized.
