In order to evaluate intellectual productivity such as the efficiency of performing mental works, several studies have been conducted where the operational logs of mental tasks were evaluated. However, it is also necessary to analyze Cognitive Load in mental workers so that the productivity can be evaluated accurately. The authors therefore have proposed a Performance-Cognitive Load model which deals with both task performance and Cognitive Load. By using the model, they have also developed the inference method of the cognitive working states which can evaluate intellectual productivity in more detail than conventional methods. The operational logs of mental tasks as well as pupil diameter and heart rate of the worker were employed as input of this method. As the result of the subject experiment, the authors found that the feasibility of this method so as to evaluate cognitive working states could be suggested and this method could well explain the detail changes of their states. This method is expected to be the novel evaluation method of intellectual productivity.

For the sustainable society, organization management not based on the mass production and mass consumption but having the flexibility to meet to various social needs precisely is required. For realizing such management, the emploees' work morale is required. Recently, however, the emploees' work morale is tend to decrease. Therefore, in this study, the authors developed the model of the method for promoting and keeping employees' work morale effectively and efficiently. Especially the authors thought “work morale” of “attitude to the work”. Based on this idea, it could be considered that the theory of the persuasion psychology and various persuasion techniques. Therefore, the model of the method applying the character agent was developed based on the forced compliance which is one of persuasion techniques based on the theory of the cognitive dissonance. By the evaluation experiment using human subjects, it was confirmed that developed method could improve workers' work morle effectively.

In order to improve intellectual concentration, few studies have verified the effect of indoor airflow among the thermal environment conditions, and the differences in effects have not been studied based on the season. In this study, an experiment was conducted to investigate the influence of a room airflow in winter on intellectual concentration. As a result, no significant difference of intellectual concentration was found between a condition with airflows and a condition without airflows. The thermal sensation vote showed that the airflows caused the participants to feel colder and it is the same as the results of an experiment in summer, although the intellectual concentration was not improved in winter. In addition, covariance structure analysis was carried out to analyze the effects for intellectual concentration. The participants were classified into two groups. A group improved intellectual concentration by the airflows and another group did not improve it. The former group showed that the airflows caused the comfortable feeling of the room and the latter group showed the airflows caused the feeling of coldness. It was shown that different persons like different airflows from the results. One of our future challenges is to provide each person a controllable airflow.

Several studies aimed at evaluating intellectual productivity and specially designed tasks were given. However, the result may not be reflected the actual intellectual productivity because the designed tasks are different from office works. Meanwhile, there are two mental states (work and temporary rest state) in office workers which are changing alternatively during mental work. If the mental states of the workers can be detected, the productivity can be measured more accurately. In this study, the authors aimed at developing a detection method of temporary rest state while performing mental works by measuring physiological indices such as EEG, ECG, and EMG of extraocular muscles and orbicularis oculi muscle. From these measured indices, the authors extracted 6 features which were alpha and beta brain waves, low and high frequency waves of heart rate, and the intervals of eye blink and saccade eye movement. They were used to detect a temporary rest state by using Mahalanobis Discrimination Analysis. As a result of the subject experiment, it was found that the detection accuracy was 80.2%. This result shows the possibility to use the physiological indices as one of the mental state detection methods.

For maintaining resilience of socio-technical systems, it is believed that knowledge sharing among practical ?eld staffs should be a crucial. The purpose of this study, therefore, is to propose a new method to enhance their knowledge sharing effectively. Especially, authors focused on their chats in a refresh room and developed a method to promote their job-related chats in a refresh room by using a large size touch panel display presenting a lot of job-related information. Authors conducted the experiments to examine the effect of developed method. As a result, the expected effect was observed approximately while some possible limitations related to characteristics of job and human relationship among target members were captured. In the conclusion, future works are discussed.
