This study is an attempt to analyze the narrative organization of Rebecca Brown's The Gifts of the Body, an example of American AlDS literature from the 1990s. Although it seems to be a simple collection of stories woven around a homecare aide and gay people with AlDS, she deliberately and elaborately organizes the stories into a coherent, artistic narrative. A close analysis of its narrative structure helps us understand why it has been received not merely as an AlDS novel, but also as a mainstream fiction that depicts the inevitable grief at a loved one's departure.
