In this paper, the results of examining the number of strands for high efficiency and low heat generation of litz wire used for transformer of LLC resonant converter are described. Converter used for switching power supplies are required to be smaller and more efficient. To reduce the size of the converter, examinations have been made by increasing the frequency of the driving frequency. However, due to the high frequency, heat generation in the winding increase due to an increase in AC resistance in the transformer, which is one of the programs of high frequency. In view of this, we study reduction in heat generation by making the wire diameter of the winding constant and changing the number of strands. As a results, it is possible to improve efficiency of the LLC converter by 0.3 % and suppress heat generation of the transformer at 37 °C.

<p> Linear DC motors often fit the drive field of which you request single stroke fast response below the 100 mm in particular. It is necessary to make the servo gain increased to drive LDM by fast-response. But displacement of LDM is easy to oscillate in increased gain. Amount of displacement is increase by pitching of LDM. It is desirable to install the displacement detection sensor at a position not affected by pitching behavior. This paper introduces the displacement detection position not affected by pitching.</p>

This paper deals with the performance characteristics of a two-axis linear pulse motor (<i>X-Y</i> LPM) using air bearing. The mass, <i>M</i>, of the mover of <i>X-Y</i> LPM is 1.35 kg and the maximum static thrust, <i>F</i><sub>s</sub>, is 48.5 N with two-phase excitation at 2 A. The maximum velocity of the mover, <i>v</i>, is 1.4 m/s and the maximum acceleration, <i>a</i>, is 14.3 m/s<sup>2</sup> at a velocity of 1 m/s without any load. The kinetic thrust, Fk, is 19.3 N. A non-oriented magnetic steel sheet, 50A350, is used as the core in the mover, and rolled steel for general structures, SS400, is used as the stator. The maximum flux densities, <i>B</i><sub>m</sub>, of 50A350 and SS400 are 1.45 T and 0.123 T, respectively, in a magnetic field with a maximum intensity of 1 kA/m and at a frequency of 1 kHz. The material of the stator must have a high magnetic flux density at the driving frequency to achieve high velocity and high-thrust driving of the <i>X-Y</i> LPM.

Transformers used in switching power supplies can be reduced in size by increasing the frequency. However, transformer loss increases with higher frequencies, which hinders higher efficiency. Therefore, transformer using interleaved winding is being considered. The authors consider the reduction of copper loss in the planar transformer for LLC resonant converter using interleaved winding. It was confirmed by analysis that the AC resistance was reduced by 55.4 % from 217.6 mΩ to 97.1 mΩ by applying interleaved winding. In addition, an interleaved planar transformer with a substrate pattern as a winding was manufactured, and through experiments, the efficiency of an LLC resonant converter using a transformer with an interleaved winding was measured, and the copper loss reduction effect of the transformer was demonstrated.

This paper describes how the launch velocity of a solenoid-type electromagnetic launcher (EML) was simulated by combining the finite element method (FEM) with electric circuit and equation of motion, in order to improve the launch velocity of a projectile. The system constitution, the specifications of the projectile and solenoid coil, and the magnetizing curve of the carbon steel projectile are introduced, and methods for calculating the exciting current and launch velocity are derived. The inductance and the exciting current of the solenoid coil, the thrust, and the launch velocity of the projectile are simulatied. The simulation results for the dependence of the exciting current and the launch velocity on the time, and dependence of the launch velocity on the settled position are shown, and compared with the measured values. The calculation errors of the exciting current and the launch velocity with respect to the measured results are 3%, and 5%, respectively. These results confirm the feasibility of the simulation method.

This paper describes the effect of the solenoid dimensions in an electromagnetic launcher on the height of projection. The height of projection is calculated by combining the circuit equation and the equation of motion. The magnetic force is carried by the finite element method. The calculation errors of the height of projection are respectively 5.5%. In conditions where the charging voltage V=68V and capacity C=3.66mF (input power W=8.46J), the height of projection of a solenoid with an outer radius r_0=19mm and length l=22mm reaches a maximum.

The output voltage of an eddy current displacement sensor depends on the quality factor Q=ωL/R of the coil. Therefore, impedance analysis of the coil is important for output voltage analysis. Theoretical analysis of coils has been performed by C. V. Dodd, A. Reatti, and others. However, the quality factor of a coil cannot be calculated by using their theory. This paper presents theoretical, numerical, and experimental analyses of a coil for an eddy current displacement sensor. The impedance characteristics are analyzed by combining three theories : Dodd's theory, Reatti's theory, and the finite element method (FEM). As a result, the calculated value of the quality factor using the technique of complementing Dodd's theory with FEM is found to be accurate within seven percent. This technique is effective from the viewpoints of calculation time and accuracy. The calculation times of the three methods are also discussed in this paper.
