Alopecia areata is one of the most common forms of alopecia and an effective treatment strategy has long been wanted. Several studies have shown that interferon-γ (IFN-γ) is implicated in the pathogenesis of alopecia areata. In this manuscript, we report on an in vitro screening method based on the restoration of cell proliferation against the cell growth inhibition induced by IFN-γ. The proliferation of the human squamous-cell-carcinoma cell line DJM-1 was suppressed by treatment of IFN-γ and the cytotoxicity was ameliorated by anti-human IFN-γ antibody. From the screening of ten extracts prepared from crude drugs related to treatments of alopecia and thermal burn, the extract of dried leaves of Ginkgo biloba (GB-ext) showed the most potent activity at 60.5% of inhibition at 100μg/mL among the samples tested. Furthermore, the seasonal transition manner of the rescue activities of GB-ext was investigated to reveal that the activity increased as the leaves grew. Surprisingly, the fallen leaves showed most potent activity. In addition, a preliminary experiment on the mechanism of the activity was performed using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction to demonstrate that GB-ext samples suppressed the expression of mRNA for HLA-DRA. These results suggest that the leaves of G. biloba can be a candidate material for the treatment of alopecia areata and the development of an effective screening method was achieved. The identification of the active principle and further investigation on the mechanism of the rescue activity are now underway.

本研究は,海外留学の効果に関する先行研究を踏まえ,1ヶ月間のフィリピン短期海外留学を経験した学生の体験レポート(149名分)の中から,異文化体験の学習過程を示す記述を中心にテキスト分析を行うものである。特に短期留学プログラムの意義や効果を把握し,今後のプログラム更新に向けた示唆を得ることを目的とする。方法としては, KHcoderによる計量テキスト分析を用いた。現地における語学研修以外の活動に関する記述内容を検討し, 1"生活環境に関することJ1"対人関係に関することJ1"文化に関することJ1"自分自身に関することJ1"ボランティアに関すること」の5つのコードに分類して解析した。その結果,90%以上の学生が現地の生活環境や対人接触の中で自国あるいは自分自身を振り返り,帰国後の生活に対する意識の変化を感じるなど,貴重な体験をしていることが確認できた。特にサブプログラムにおけるボランティア体験はそのきっかけとなっていることが認められ,生活環境の違いや子どもたちとの関わりは強いインパクトを持つと考えられた。

従来本邦ではE型肝炎は輸入感染症として軽視されがちであったが, 最近本邦を含む非流行地からの国内発症例の報告が相次いでおり, 我々も1例経験したので報告する. 症例は62歳男性. アルコール歴・ビタミン剤と生薬の服用歴あるも, 海外渡航歴・輸血歴・動物の飼育歴はなく, 特記すべき性交渉歴もなかった. 2000年11月初旬より全身倦怠感・褐色尿・微熱・食思不振を訴え, 職場の健康管理室を受診. 急性肝炎の疑いで同年11月21日に当科外来を紹介され, 同日入院となった. 入院時には全身倦怠感・皮膚及び眼球結膜黄染・軽度肝腫大・肝逸脱酵素上昇を認め, 急性肝炎と診断した. 安静のみで経過観察したが, 劇症化あるいは遷延・慢性化することもなく, 約20日間で軽快退院となった. 入院時より第29病日まで血清HEV-RNAが持続陽性で, 且つ第57病日の回復期血清中にHEV抗体を認めたことより, E型急性肝炎と診断した. 本患者より分離されたHEV株(JRA 1)のゲノム塩基配列の特徴に鑑みて, 本症例は「日本に土着化したHEV株」に感染して発症した急性肝炎であると考えられた.

The "Origamic" approach gives us useful information and suggestion in the design of folding pattern of membrane, which can be applied to retractable membrane roof or foldable membrane structures. In the Origamic approach, membrane is assumed that it has perfect shear rigidity and its flexural deformation occurs only along the crease line. In the paper extraction of basic folding pattern from eigen modes of bending deformation is firstly proposed. Then the condition of foldability and its applications to the generation of foldable pattern in the finite displacement range are also proposed. Finally the patterns and conditions are examined by folding analysis.
