The intermittent warm ocean water intrusion into Kagoshima bay is well known as Kyucho phenomenon. We first visualize these phenomena in winter using the satellite thermal infrared images and examine some specifications, especially the distribution patterns, of the intrusion. Then the numerical analysis using a multi-leveled finite difference method is performed for the purpose to investigate the phenomena. It is found from the numerical analysis : (1) The intrusion occurs when the warm water comes into touch with the bay water at the mouth of the bay. (2) The calculated velocity of the warm water intrusion is the same order to the ones estimated by the satellite images. (3) The role of the initial velocity is to increase the intrusion speed. (4) The intrusion speed also increases with the temperature and the thickness of the ocean water. (5) The sea surface wind changes the warm water distribution pattern in the bay. The effects of the warm water contact period at the mouth of the bay and the two successive intrusions are also investigated.

本研究では中国山地を流れる吉井川において,かつて高瀬舟が補助動力として風を利用していたことを手がかりに,風力利用の可能性を調べた.はじめに高瀬舟に関する文献や資料の中から風力に関する情報を収集し,高瀬舟が帆走可能であった区間を調べたところ,中流域の和気町では帆走に適した風が得やすいものと推測された.続いて和気町周辺の風況観測を実施し,風況の特徴を整理するとともに,簡単な風系推定モデルを用いて風場を推算した.この結果,和気町では年間を通じて昼間に2m/s~3m/s程度の風が得られる他,和気町を流れる吉井川は平地からの風が流入しやすい地形条件を有していることが見いだされた.この地域の風速は概して小さく,風力発電には適さないが,過去に利用された自然エネルギーを学ぶ環境教育への活用が期待できる.

In this research, we first investigated children's interests by questionnaires of some classroom for elementary school students. Results of questionnaires show that participants were divided into two groups who have interest in engineering (mechanism) and science (how animal and robot swim?). Then, an improved version of turtle-like robot, which has light sensors on board, was developed to fill child's interest for science and engineering. Child can lead this robot with intuitive feeling by using flashlight. This robot was also designed as line tracer along LED tube light.

<p>In this research, a novel rough terrain track mechanism for agricultural robot and levee weed robots was developed. Soft and long spike track provides enough shear forces by insert the comb like soft spikes on weed covered steep slopes which we can often see along rice field. In addition, spikes are composed of flexible materials to enable running on uneven surfaces and muddy areas. In this report, a relationship between the spike length and the climbing performance on the grass covered slope will be described.</p>
