Exactly speaking, requirement properties in running shoes depend on the condition. Here, the condition indicates the runner's skill and running velocity. In the designing of running shoes for high speed, sole bending and torsional module are very important. Because large sole deformation causes energy loss in contact phase. In this study, propulsion efficiency calculated by the horizontal ground reaction force in running is proposed. The reduction in the propulsion efficiency is very effective for high speed running. The propulsion efficiency depends on the sole stiffness. In order to evaluate the propulsion efficiency, sole stiffness evaluation method based on eigenvalue analysis is introduced. After checking of the validity, the practical deigning of running shoes for high speed running is indicated.

局所的な構造不安定の問題,たとえば薄肉構造の局所座屈に代表されるような問題では,部分的な変形が隣接する部分の変形を促し,それらの間でひずみエネルギの授受を伴いながら構造全体の不安定性が増大したり,あるいは解消する挙動が現れる.構造全体の挙動を一つのパラメータによって制御する手法,例えば弧長法によってこの種の問題を安定に解くことは難しく,慣性力あるいは粘性力の効果を導入し,ひずみエネルギの局所的な消散を適正に表現する必要がある.これまで適用例が多い動的陽解法は,その一つの便法である.本研究では最近の汎用FEMを使用し,人工的な粘性を与えることによって局所的な構造不安定に起因する解析の困難を克服した.圧縮を受ける完全円筒に近い弾性円筒シェルを手始めに,材料に起因する不安定現象を含め,全自動かつシームレスの解析によって深い後座屈の領域までをトレースすることが可能になったので報告する.

In strength training, squat exercise is a representative example of lower extremity training. As target muscles of squat exercise are mainly knee extensrs and hip extensors, it is well-known that posture can effect on the main muscles activities. In addition, it is pointed out that injuries on squat exercise such as patellar tendinitis and low back pain are caused by the wrong posture. Therefore, it is important to design shoe function considering safety posture, effective load, and stability. However, athletes and trainee tend to do barbell squat exercise with various types of shoes such as weight lifting specific shoes, versatile training shoes, and indoor athletic shoes. Hence shoe heel-heights, which are derived from sole thickness difference between rearfoot and forefoot, are widely different from almost 0mm to over 20mm and might change the effect of training. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of the shoe heel-height on squat motion. Firstly the motion analysis was conducted and it was confirmed that low heel-height structure leads anterior projection of the knee and high load on knee joint. In contrast, high heel-height structure causes trunk forward tilting and high load on hip joint. Secondly, the relationship between experience of the exercise and shoe heel-height was investigated using beginner and experienced subjects. Judging from the results, it was concluded that shoe heel-height makes influence on squat motion especially posture and load for beginners and stability for experiencesd subjects.

Braids have been applied to various components for over one thousand years. Binding, bundling and hanging are listed in the representative uses of braids. The braids have characteristic mechanical properties, low modulus, large deformability, variable Poisson's ratio and low stiffness under flexural and compressive loads, and so on. Evaluation method of the braid properties has not been established. In order to clarify mechanical properties of the braids under the initial tensile loading quantitatively, an evaluation method is proposed in this study. By the application of the proposed method to three kinds of glass fiber braids, effects of braiding structure on the mechanical properties are discussed. Therefore the valid tensile testing method for evaluation of the braid properties could be proposed.

Flexibility is one of the important properties of running shoes. This function has been evaluated by the bending stiffness of the shoe sole. However, this evaluation method seems to be insufficient because it cannot consider the deformation behaviors of the human foot and the shoe sole. The human foot can flex at the metatarsophalangeal joint only. This indicates that deformation of shoe sole must be considered. In this study, a new evaluation method for the flexibility of running shoes based on shoe sole deformation is proposed. In this method, curvature distributions of the plantar surface and shoe soles were measured at heel 100 mm up. The proposed flexibility is evaluated from the comparison. The influences of groove position and depth upon the sole curvature distribution were measured by both the experiment and the finite element method. Then, based on the analytical results, several shoes were made and these were evaluated by sensory evaluation test. From these results, it is suggested that matching the maximum flexion point of the shoe sole with that of plantar surface is important.
