Although a causal relationship has been suggested between Team Identification and Place Attachment, it may be necessary to verify the existence of the parameters between them. In this research, "The rise of Team Identification is accompanied by the rise in the evaluation of the social environment of the community, and leads to the rise of Place Attachment," was aimed at the hypothesis to be verified.    As a result of the two-way analysis of variance based on data from three longitudinal surveys, we determined that Team Identification ascending group significantly increased both Place Attachment and the bonds of the community as compared to the non-ascending group, and it was suggested that the evaluation of the social environment of the community rose in the ascending group. It can be said that the hypothesis was supported, considering the fact that "regional attachment influence structure" was confirmed in Imabari-City, the area of survey on this study.

An interview survey was conducted to ascertain the kind of management talent sought by a professional sports club. In order to conduct the survey, one club was selected from each of the J1, J2, and J3 groups in the 2014 season. Semi-structured interviews were conducted based on: 1. skills and qualifications required for work, 2. organization and work content of the club, 3. growth process of the club management, and 4. human resource development policy of the club.    The results show a division in the abilities required to run a professional sports club, ranging from requiring highly versatile abilities such as worker fundamentals, drive, and job compatibility to specific abilities tailored to the business of a professional sports club.     The foundation of a professional sports club’ s business is entertainment. Therefore, skills in communication to entertain people and in gaming business management are required. In addition, as sponsorship of local companies is a key focus for management, the ability to demonstrate communication that generates empathy and responsive management is essential.     Clubs that are recognized as public assets of a community tend to build business models that utilize volunteers. Strategic communication to promote spontaneity was identified as an important strength to effectively manage this business model.

The purpose of this study was to clarify the impact of a rash guard on the likability of a swimming class from the perspective of the psychological difficulty of wearing a swimsuit. In study 1, 127 college students (20.35years old; 54 males, 73 females) completed a retrospective survey on the psychological difficulty of wearing a swimsuit in junior high school. The results revealed that psychological difficulty can be divided into four concerns: body shape, other people′s gaze, sunburn, and body hair. In study 2, 315 students (13.39years old; 165 males, 150 females) belonging to a junior high school that allowed them to wear a rash guard in swimming class and 290 students (13.93years old; 138 males, 152 females) belonging to a junior high school that did not allow them to wear a rash guard in swimming class completed a survey on the likability of the swimming class, requests for wearing a rash guard in future classes, and the psychological difficulty of wearing a swimsuit. The results revealed that wearing a rash guard impacted the likability of a swimming class by reducing students′ anxiety about sunburn.

The purpose of this study was to reveal how professional baseball players were trained while they were amateur baseball players, and to examine ways to improve the problems faced by amateur baseball players. A survey of 300 professional baseball players was conducted.    There were a lot of problems revealed in amateur baseball: “overwork and injury because of irrational, inefficient, and too long training” , “manner of the instructors” , “balance among baseball, studying, and playing” , and “violence to the players” . These results suggested that most professional baseball players wanted it to be done in a different way from their own experience, and that they had a strong awareness of the problems of traditional training.

This study defines the students who have continuously belonged to a sports club built systematically in the school constitution as "<I>TAIIKUKAIKEI</I>" students, and clarifies when and how this idea came into being and the common understanding that "<I>TAIIKUKAIKEI</I>" students could be regarded as more favorable human resources than the other students in job hunting in Japan. The document sources are mainly gathered from articles in the business magazine '<I>JITSUGYOU NO NIHON</I>' , that was circulated widely from the end of the Meiji era to the beginning of the Showa era.<BR>    The results are summarized as follows. At the beginning of the Taisho era, the idea or consciousness of "<I>TAIIKUKAIKEI</I>" had not existed yet, but there was a belief that it was necessary to have a robust body in order to survive the competition of society. In the middle of the Taisho era, behind the growing enthusiasm for sports, people became conscious that lots of executives of big companies had been "<I>TAIIKUKAIKEI</I>" and it had the media values of : (1) advertisement and (2) prevention of being left in remote colonial places, and so it was observed that "<I>TAIIKUKAIKEI</I> employment" was coming into being. By the end of the Taisho era, reflecting the excessive emphasis on academic attainments in recruiting, "<I>TAIIKUKAIKEI</I> employment" came to be established.<BR>    Afterwards, at the beginning of the Showa era, the process of distinguishing between "Professional" and "Amateur" became clearer and the latter became dominant over the former in "<I>TAIIKUKAIKEI</I> employment" , and sportsmanship became a more important element in composing a useful body. In the days when the labor movement was growing radically in response to the depression, ideological problems such as alerting to Marxists, leftists, and communists were supposed to be social issues. In this context, the students with physical and mental problem-this study named them "<I>KYOYOKEI</I>" in contrast to "<I>TAIIKUKAIKEI</I>" -received negative images and seemed to have been shunned by companies. At the same time, because the "<I>TAIIKUKAIKEI</I>" had not changed anything, they were understood to have a moderate ideology and to be more important from the viewpoint of employment.

It is important to clarify the impact of competition among J-League clubs on the distance decay parameters of season ticket purchase rate for J-clubs marketing.    The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the distance decay parameters of J-league season ticket purchase rate and the other competing clubs when two clubs are located close together, using the distance decay model.    All of the respondents were J-League season ticket holders of four clubs: theYokohama F·Marinos, Shonan Bellmare, Gamba Osaka and Cerezo Osaka. Postal code were collected in 2008 January. Season ticket purchase rate and the distance between each stadium and center of cities were calculated using geographic information system. Through the distance decay model, we estimated the distance decay parameters.    The results of the present study suggested that the season ticket purchase rates of the higher performance clubs are widely distributed (distance decay slope is gentle) , while the season ticket purchase rates of the lower performance clubs are precipitously distributed (distance decay slope is steep) . In conclusion, it is possible that the distance decay parameters of J-League season ticket purchase rates are affected by the existence of other competing when two clubs are located close together.

This article presents the results of research designed to explore the coach dispatch programme which was conducted by the committee of the Japan Gymnastics Association to promote men′s rhythmic gymnastics outside Japan. Although men′s rhythmic gymnastics has been developed for over fifty years in Japan, the existence of this sport has been endangered since around 2001, when global success came to be considered essential for every competitive sport. To bring this sport to more athletes and a wider audience, the committee sent top gymnasts to some countries from 2001 to 2006. However, the details of the programme and the reasons why the programme was terminated in 2006 were not publicly recorded. Thus, this article investigates what the representatives accomplished and what problems and future tasks the coaches recognised to identify the structure of the problems that have occurred in the process of the global diffusion of the sport.    Interview data were analysed according to the principles of the SCAT (Steps for Coding and Theorization) Qualitative Data Analysis Method. Results show that the defects were inherent in their organisation and the programme itself, which were recognised by most of the coaches dispatched, such as lack of close consideration before the programme was set out, and the fact that the coaches were supposed to carry out their mission on a fairly low budget and in an unfamiliar culture, mostly without any support from the committee in Japan. Research indicates that the coach dispatch programme was aborted as a result of a combination of those factors. Additionally, this paper argues that further tasks of the programme suggested by the informants are significantly affected by their understandings of the characteristics of this sport and their philosophy of it.

The J.League, which began in 1993, has had some problems with regard to stagnation of the number of fans attending matches and their increasing average age, which are awaiting solution. To gain new fans and overcome the present situation, first it is essential that the determinants of fan visits to stadiums be understood. The purpose of this study was to clarify the factors affecting attendance at J.League matches, using the 2013 data based on the average attendance rate. In this analysis, we roughly divided the independent variables into five: economic variables, stadium variables, condition of club’s record variables, attractiveness of match variables, and environmental variables. The dependent variable was the number of fans attending a match. Furthermore, we divided the clubs into high average attendance rate and low average attendance rate groups based on their average attendance rates to analyze the basis of each club’s operating conditions. Our multiple regression analysis showed that the number of fans attending a match depends on various factors, such as population, day of the week of game, or opening game. Moreover, these determinants differ with the average filling rate between the high and low rate groups, suggesting that the determinants of the number of fans attending a match depends on the average attendance rate. This study indicates that the J.League needs to take innovative steps to gain new fans and increase fan attendance. This is a mission not for the J.League alone, but for every J.Club. We hope that the factors determining fan attendance at the J.League will soon be clarified and steps will be taken to develop the league further.

This paper examines the impact of the 2002 World Cup held in Japan and Korea on the domestic soccer league of Japan, the J. League. We first consider the impact of World Cups on league attendance in some European countries and then compare this with the Japanese case. We find that demand increased substantially in the years just before and after the World Cup. These effects seem to be associated with new stadiums built for the event.

With the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games hosting, attention has begun to be paid to spectators of parasports. However, there has been limited research on spectators of parasports. It is essential to clarify the motivations for spectatorship, which can predict future spectatorship behavior, and there is room to consider the relationships among factors and moderating variables. The purpose of this study was threefold : (1) to identify the structure of spectator motivation and to provide basic data for the development of a valid a reliable spectator motivation scale for parasports (2) to investigate the relationship between spectator motivation and spectator intention, and (3) to compare and verify how the relationship between spectator motivational factors and spectator intention differs depending on differences in spectators' psychological involvement in sport. By conducting a questionnaire survey with international wheelchair basketball spectators (n = 993), we were able to identify a parasport spectator motivation scale consisting of six factors and 19 items. Furthermore, in examining the relationship between the factors and each variable, we were able to identify factors that had a significant effect. In addition, by using the moderating variable, we were able to clarify that there were differences between spectator motivation and spectator intention depending on the psychological involvement of the spectator in the sport. It is hoped that these results will be used as primary data for organizers of parasports events to promote the uniqueness and singularity of parasports and to stimulate spectator behavior.

Corporate governance is essentially the way in which companies are managed. Among professional sport clubs, professional football clubs are typically registered as companies. Hence, the operation is determined by corporate governance. There was a steadily increasing volume of criticism and complaints regarding the governance of many companies. Also in sport industries worldwide, there occurs the conflict of interests between fans and clubs due to excessive commercialization. To tackle this problem, innovative "supporters′ trusts" have been successfully created in the British football and rugby leagues and union clubs by an organization called "Supporters Direct" , an independent but government backed body. Supporters come together collectively and set up these mutual organizations (called Industrial and Provident Societies-IPSs) and buy and hold the shares mutually in their clubs and where possible elect their representatives to the board as directors to express their concerns and opinions effectively. This has been effective at many clubs where they depend on supporters as well as the local community for their survival, and also at clubs in the English and Scottish Premier Leagues.<BR>    Here in Japan, we find the sponsors have started to withdraw their sponsorship for the professional as well as amateur clubs due to the tightening corporate governance in the business societies. The successive withdrawals have caused damages to the development of sports, while sports are expected to provide good pastime for the ageing society in the future.<BR>    In the circumstances it is now apparent that fans' participation in the management of professional sport clubs has become more important than ever. Here we discuss the structure of supporters' trust and its significance to fans′ involvement in the management of football clubs by comparing it with other types of ISA (Independent Supporters Association) , Mutuals, Share Purchase Cub and as such.

The purpose of this article was to introduce the role and importance of physical literacy in Canadian Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) and physical education, and to consider the applicability of physical literacy in Japanese athlete development and physical education.    Physical literacy can be described as “the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life”. The concept is recognized as the foundation for LTAD. However, the effectiveness of LTAD and physical literacy have not been made clear because there has been no concrete measurement.     On the other hand, in a physical education setting, recent studies have recommended the assessment of outcomes of physical education by the Canadian Assessment of Physical Literacy (CAPL). If the reliability and validity of CAPL is confirmed, further studies are expected to procced in the fields of LTAD and physical education.     In conclusion, there are a lot of research subjects within LTAD and physical education settings, while the attention to physical literacy is increasing. Therefore, the applicability of physical literacy in Japanese athlete development and physical education needs to be considered with careful attention to future research trends. In addition, the discussion on sharing the goal of developing physical literacy between athlete development and physical education is one of the important issues.

The purpose of this study was to examine the business model of sports tourism utilized by the South Korean walking trail "Jeju Olle", leading to social change not only domestically but also internationally. Jeju Olle was opened in 2007 and currently it offers 26 courses (totaling 425 km). From 2011 to 2014, over a million Korean walkers rushed to Jeju, causing a walking tour boom. Jeju Olle has changed the leisure-time activities, regional economy, and policies of Korea and it is spreading to Kyushu Olle and Mongol Olle. Ms. Myung-sook Suh, the founder of Jeju Olle, serves as the president of the Jeju Olle Foundation, a non-profit organization (NPO) that operates without dependence on administrational subsidies. The NPO succeeded in transforming an old country road into a fashionable trail decorated with a gentle feminine sensibility that has become known as the "Olle" brand. The NPO’s business operates on revenue from membership fees, company sponsorships, and sales of original brand products and it is supported by a large number of volunteers. Thus, it is a sustainable business model made possible by its financial independence, enthusiastic followers, and brand image, based on female sensibilities and flexibility, and it represents a new global approach to health promotion.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the perception regarding TAIKAN (which means the trunk or torso, including the core) exercise training among young adults. A questionnaire-based survey was performed on university students (n = 236) to clarify the relationships between exercise habits, perception of TAIKAN training exercise, and frequency of implementation of the same. The participants, who exercised regularly (30 or more min per day, 2 or more days per week, and maintaining this for more than 1 year) , had a higher proportion of understanding of TAIKAN than the participants who did not exercise. However, even most of the participants who did not exercise were aware of the word TAIKAN. The participants who exercised regularly performed TAIKAN training at a high frequency, even if they did not understand the meaning of TAIKAN. Furthermore, among the participants who understood TAIKAN, 20-30% consciously train their upper arm or thigh muscles, and 10% train their forearm or lower thigh muscles. These results suggest that although awareness of the word TAIKAN was high, regardless of presence or absence of exercise habits, its meaning might not be properly understood. Therefore, to enhance the effect of training, it is important to instruct people in the correct way of performing TAIKAN training exercises.

Ski boots are generally important for assisting progress in ski turn technique as an interface between a skier and a ski. This study is aimed at developing a new ski boot that can improve the results of alpine ski races for Japanese players. In this paper, a new design of a ski boot that is adjusted to the features of the frame of Japanese athletes was experimentally examined. As a result, it was demonstrated that the front part of the upper shell of a ski boot should be lower and the rear part should be higher than the normal upper shell for providing well-balanced quick leaning of the leg in the ski turn. Finally, the effect of the new upper shell was verified in giant slalom and slalom test by Japanese alpine ski players of the first rank.

The sports participation rate, which indicates the exercise habits of people, has increased significantly in the last 30 years. According to the survey of household economy, the ratio of sports admission fees to education and entertainment expenses is on the rise. Then, how much has the sports spectating rate, which indicates whether or not a person spectated at sports events at least once a year, increased? In this study, we investigated whether the increase in the spectating rate could be confirmed by macro data. The data was secondarily obtained from the “National Sports-Life Survey” and “National Sports-Life Survey of Children and Young People” conducted by the Sasakawa Sports Foundation, and the ratios of respondents who had spectated some kind of sports in the last year were aggregated and compared by survey year. To evaluate the significance of difference in each survey year, Kruskal-Wallis test and Bonferroni correction were used. As a result of the investigation, a significant increase in the spectating rate was observed from 1994 to 2010 for adults excluding students, and no significant decrease was confirmed thereafter. On the other hand, for professional baseball (NPB) and soccer (J-League), there was no increasing trend in the spectating rate. This suggested that the absolute number of spectators is small compared to the whole population in Japan. Although sports admission fees have increased due to the repeaters, from the viewpoint of the spectating rate, even if the number of spectators at one event increases, it gives small impact on the spectating rate of the whole, as long as the venues are in a biased location. In order to increase the number of spectators, it is important that various events be held in various areas.

Opposing clubs involve not only sports competitors but also economic partners that are likely to influence fan behavior. Therefore, it is important to understand rivalry in team sports to ensure the financial viability of the leagues and teams. However, much of the study on rivalry in sports has focused either on professional or high-level men’s collegiate team sports in the US. The research in this study explored the perceptual rivalry of a Japanese professional sport club’s supporters against other clubs and the reasons for the rivalry. Data were collected via an email survey of the official fan club members of Alvark Tokyo, a Japanese professional basketball team in the B.League (N=377). Respondents were asked to rank up to five of the biggest rival clubs in the B.League first division and assess their subjective intensity of rivalry on a 100-point direct rating scale (RP). Next, they were asked to answer the reasons for their rivalry perception, based on 17 rivalry element items. The intensity of the rivalry against each club was calculated as the average value of the RP. A Kruskal-Wallis test was used to assess the differences in the reasons why each club was recognized as the biggest rival. The Chiba Jets was selected as the biggest rival team (RP=84.0), followed by the Tochigi Brex (RP=82.1), the Ryukyu Golden Kings (RP=61.2), the Kawasaki Brave Thunders (RP=56.0), the Seahorses Mikawa (RP=27.4), and the Sunrockers Shibuya (RP=16.9). The Kruskal-Wallis test indicated that the reasons for supporters’ perception of rivalry differed significantly across the six clubs. The empirical results suggested that the rivalry against other clubs may be amplified by the overlapping of conditions such as comparable competitiveness, geographical proximity, and historical relationships. Some practical implications are provided.
