The present investigation is a statistical study on the relation between the sunspot activity and the destructive earthquakes in Japan (Formosa excluded) for 318 years from 1608 to 1925 (Fig.1). The method of this investigation is that, the number of destructive earthquakes which occurred for three years containing the year of snnspot maximum or minimum and the same in the other years, have been counted and reduced to the frequency in an equal duration, which at last were represented by the percentage frequency.
