Ferriprehnite (IMA2020–057), ideal formula Ca2Fe3+(AlSi3)O10(OH)2, is a new mineral that was found as secondary mineral in druses developed in the hydrothermal altered dolerite from Kouragahana, Shimane Peninsula, Japan. Ferriprehnite is an Fe analogue of prehnite. The crystals consisting of ferriprehnite and prehnite occur as a radial aggregate. The tabular crystals are up to 300 µm long, 100 µm wide, and 50 µm thick. Ferriprehnite is colorless to pale green with white streak and vitreous luster. It has a Mohs hardness of 6½. Its cleavage is good on {100}. The calculated density is 2.97 g/cm3. The empirical formula of ferriprehnite on the basis of 10O + 2OH using the result obtained by electron microprobe analysis is Ca1.99(Fe3+0.66Al0.34)Σ1.00(Al1.02Si2.98)Σ4.00O10(OH)2. Structure refinement converged to R1 = 4.64%. Its space group is orthorhombic Pma2 with unit–cell parameters a = 18.6149(10) Å, b = 5.4882(3) Å, c = 4.6735(3) Å, and V = 477.46(1) Å3. The determined site occupancy at the octahedral M site is Fe0.637(9)Al0.363 indicating that the M site is predominantly occupied by Fe. <M–O> increases with increasing Fe content leading to isotropic expansion of MO6 octahedra. The a– and c– dimensions of ferriprehnite are longer than those of prehnite due to Fe substitution for Al at the M site.

This study examines how married women adapt their way of life to the suburbs and why they choose to hold part-time jobs, to clarify the mechanisms underlying “spatial entrapment” and “spatial mismatch.” Data were collected through a questionnaire survey targeting married couples living in Chiba New Town, located in the northeastern suburb of the Tokyo metropolitan area. Among 107 sampled women, 72 are part-time workers. Many of them preferred the short commute, short and flexible working hours, and lack of overtime responsibilities in their job. Thus they often found jobs by receiving information on the local labor market from news-papers and their insertions, posters and displays, and direct leaflets. Women who found their current jobs through these mediums commute to their workplaces approximately four kilometers away from their home, which corresponds to the distance between stations in the new town. Nevertheless, after commencing work, women realized that their current jobs did not match their preferred ones. Also, full-time homemakers are likely not to need to work outside the home in order to support their households. These results demonstrate that suburban married women become short-distance commuters because they take advantage of the social environment that embeds them in their job search. However, this also reflects unique characteristics of Chiba New Town, such as inaccessibility to central Tokyo, wives' lifestyle of giving priority to their family needs, and the relatively high incomes of their husbands that are sufficient for living.

We investigated single application of pastes containing a surface reaction-type pre-reacted glass-ionomer (S-PRG) filler on enamel demineralization. Human enamel blocks were polished using pastes containing S-PRG filler (0, 5, and 30%) and immersed in demineralizing solution for 5 days with daily change of solutions. The pH measurement and nanoindentation testing was carried out during the immersion period, and the enamel surfaces were examined using scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. A non-fluoride paste and a hydroxyapatite-containing paste were used for comparison. The specimens polished with the S-PRG filler-containing paste exhibited acid-neutralizing properties, which became stronger with an increasing S-PRG filler content. Following immersion in the demineralizing solution, specimens polished with the S-PRG filler-containing paste exhibited significantly greater hardness and elastic modulus values than those polished with the other pastes and exhibited a smoother surface than did the other specimens. Pastes containing S-PRG filler inhibits the demineralization of enamel.

A rare complex dysraphic malformation, comprising segmental spinal dysgenesis with caudal agenesis, was found in a Holstein calf that was unable to stand and was slightly short at the lumbosacral spine with taillessness. The thoracolumbar and sacrococcygeal regions of the midline axial segments showed severe deformities. In the spinal cord, the thoracolumbar region showed severe constriction with myelodysplastic changes, and the sacrococcygeal region showed dorsoventral separation with connection to a neural mass. In the spine, vertebral anomalies according to the degree of the segmentation error were confirmed. The cervical and thoracic segments also showed milder dysraphic changes. These changes suggest a multisegmental causal insult impairing the early embryonic notochord. This represents the first bovine case definitively confirmed morphologically.
