Objective: Gait ability may be related to the level of intensity-based physical activity in people who have experienced a stroke; however, this relationship has not been explored in previous studies. This study aimed to investigate the characteristics of intensity-based physical activity according to gait ability and to explore the factors related to different intensity physical activity. Method: Eighty hospitalized participants with subacute stroke were assigned to three groups based on their gait ability: group 1 (n = 28) could walk independently with a maximal gait speed (MGS) of more than 0.9 m/s; group 2 (n = 11) could walk independently with a MGS of less than 0.9 m/s; group 3 (n = 41) could not walk independently. Light-intensity physical activity (LIPA) and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) were measured for 12 hours using an accelerometer (OMRON, HJA350-IT) for 7 consecutive days and were calculated throughout three time periods (daytime, non-therapy time, or therapy time). Results: In each time period, a two-way ANOVA showed an interaction between the groups and intensity-based physical activity (p < 0.05). Bonferroni post hoc test showed a significantly higher LIPA in groups 1 and 2 compared with group 3 in daytime or non-therapy time. In contrast, group 1 showed a significantly higher MVPA compared with group 2 and 3 for each time period. Conclusion: During daytime and non-therapy time, the results suggested that gait independence is related to LIPA rather than gait speed, and gait speed and gait independence is related to MVPA.

Interesting works on the evolutionary origins of consciousness have been published recently. They are interesting especially because they try to solve the hard problem of consciousness through the study of the evolutionary origins of consciousness. This paper critically examines one of these works, a book by Feinberg and Mallatt. Though it seems that they fail to offer a new and plausible solution to the hard problem of consciousness, studying evolutionary origins remains to be one of the most promising strategies for the naturalization of consciousness.

This study aimed to determine the role of the 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP) in dentin bond durability of universal adhesive in etch-&-rinse mode through bond strength tests after different degradation conditions. This study used the MDP-containing universal adhesive, Clearfil Universal Bond Quick (CU), and an experimental adhesive (NM) made with the same ingredients as CU, excluding MDP. Shear bond strength (SBS) to dentin were obtained in etch-&-rinse mode with or without MDP. CU in self-etch mode was used as a comparison. The groups were divided into three types: 1) subjected to thermal cycling; 2) subjected to long-term water storage; and 3) stored in water for 24 h, as a baseline. The discrepancies in the mean SBS of the CU and NM groups become prominent with prolonged degradation periods. This study indicates that the MDP in universal adhesive might play a key role in enhancing dentin bond quality even when etch-&-rinse mode is used.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of desensitizing dentifrices containing stannous fluoride (SnF2) on dentinal tubule occlusion. Two experimental dentifrices with the same ingredients but different SnF2 concentrations (Group II, 0.4% w/w; Group III, 0.454% w/w) were used; distilled water was used in the control group (Group I). Third molars were collected from Japanese and American dental patients. The crowns were removed and sectioned to obtain dentin discs, which were further cut into quarters. Thirty-six specimens each from Japanese and American patients were divided into three sets (n = 12 each) and assigned to each of the three treatment groups. The specimens were brushed for 10 s twice per day for 4 days. After treatment, the discs were observed by scanning electron microscopy, and the extent of dentinal tubule occlusion in the images was expressed on a five-point categorical scale. Group II and III specimens from Japanese and American patients showed greater dentinal tube occlusion than those from Group I, but the differences were not statistically significant. The present results suggest that both SnF2 concentrations mitigate dentin hypersensitivity, regardless of patient ethnicity.

新学習指導要領では,「主体的・対話的で深い学び」の実現に向けた授業改善を求めており,主体的に学びに参加する子どもの育成を推し進めている。体育科では,運動への好意的なかかわりの2極化傾向が課題として挙げられ,負の極に位置する子どもに焦点を当てた授業展開に大きな関心が寄せられている。陸上運動・リレーにおいて,走力の差が主体的な学びへの参加の差にも現れている現状をふまえ,「運動の本質的なおもしろさ」に着目して,走路が全て円形という教材の開発を図った。そして,ワークシートから収集したデータをテキストマイニングにより分析した結果,主体的に学びに参加している子どもの姿を確認することで,「サークルリレー」という教材の有用性が示唆された。

In this study, we investigated the influence of light intensity on the surface-free energy and dentin bond strength of single-step selfetch adhesives. The adhesives were applied to the dentin surfaces of bovine mandibular incisors and cured with light intensities of 0 (no irradiation), 200, 400, and 600 mW/cm2. Surface-free energies were determined by measuring the contact angles of three test liquids placed on the cured adhesives. Dentin bond strengths of the specimens were also measured. Polymerization with a higher light intensity resulted in a lower surface-free energy of the cured adhesives. The greatest bond strength was achieved when a light intensity of 400 mW/cm2 or greater was used. Our data suggest that the surface-free energy and dentin bond strength of single-step self-etch adhesives are affected by light intensity of the curing unit.

Effects of a fluoride-releasing varnish containing surface reaction-type prereacted glass ionomer (S-PRG) filler on dentin demineralization were examined using optical coherence tomography. Bovine incisors that were sliced and treated with undersaturated 0.1 M lactic acid buffer solution (DE group). A thin film of varnish-containing S-PRG filler was applied before demineralization (PRG group). Control was maintained in artificial saliva. Using optical coherence tomography of selected locations on the dentin surface, peak intensity (dB) and width (μm) at 1/e2 were obtained and integrated values calculated. Although alterations in integrated values were different in each group, there was a slight but not significant increase in those for the control group and a slight but significant increase for the De group. For the PRG group, integrated values were doubled seven days after experiment initiation, followed by a significant increase. Fluoride-releasing varnish containing S-PRG fillers prevented dentin demineralization as detected by optical coherence tomography.
