Aim: Coronary atherosclerotic plaques can be detected in asymptomatic subjects and are related to low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL) levels in patients with coronary artery disease. However, researchers have not yet determined the associations between various plaque characteristics and other lipid parameters, such as HDL-C and TG levels, in low-risk populations. Methods: One thousand sixty-four non-diabetic subjects (age, 57.86±9.73 years; 752 males) who underwent coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) were enrolled and the severity and patterns of atherosclerotic plaques were analyzed. Results: Statin use was reported by 25% of the study population, and subjects with greater coronary plaque involvement (segment involvement score, SIS) were older and had a higher body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, unfavorable lipid profiles and comorbidities. After adjusting for comorbidities, only age (β=0.085, p<0.001), the male gender (β=1.384, p<0.001), BMI (β=0.055, p=0.019) and HbA1C levels (β=0.894, p<0.001) were independent factors predicting the greater coronary plaque involvement in non-diabetic subjects. In the analysis of significantly different (>50%) stenosis plaque patterns, age (OR: 1.082, 95% CI: 10.47-1.118) and a former smoking status (OR: 2.061, 95% CI: 1.013-4.193) were independently associated with calcified plaques. For partial calcified (mixed type) plaques, only age (OR: 1.085, 95% CI: 1.052-1.119), the male gender (OR: 7.082, 95% CI: 2.638-19.018), HbA1C levels (OR: 2.074, 95% CI: 1.036-4.151), and current smoking status (OR: 1.848, 95% CI: 1.089-3.138) were independently associated with the risk of the presence of significant stenosis in mixed plaques. Conclusions: A higher HbA1c levels is independently associated with the presence and severity of coronary artery atherosclerosis in non-diabetic subjects, even when LDL-C levels are tightly controlled.

To investigate the epidemic of HIV, HCV and syphilis, HIV-1 subtype among men who have sex with men (MSM) and to measure factors that correlated with sexual transmitted infections (STIs), a cross-sectional survey was conducted among 657 MSM in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu, during 2012-2013. Social-demographic characterization and risky behaviors were collected and blood samples were obtained. In this survey, the prevalence of STIs of HIV (5.3%), HCV (0.6%) and syphilis (19.2%) were measured. Of 35 HIV-infected MSM, 1 (0.2%) and 17 (2.6%) were co-infected with HCV and syphilis. Among 33 samples with available HIV-1 genomic fragments sequences, 6.1% B, 72.7% CRF01_AE and 21.2% CRF07_BC were indentified. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that age>30 years (OR 2.002; 95% CI 1.144 to 3.502) and having had STIs symptoms in the past year (OR 11.673; 95% CI 3.092 to 44.078) were positively correlated with STIs positive, while consistently use condom when have sex with male partners (OR 0.621; 95% CI 0.408 to 0.945) was significantly associated with a low STIs rate. The worsening epidemic of HIV, HCV and syphilis, complex subtypes of HIV-1 and risk factors suggest that effective intervention strategies should be strengthened for MSM in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu.

Purpose: Fiber-reinforced composites (FRCs) have received considerable attention, owing to their potential use in dental prostheses or bone fracture fixation applications. The aim of this systematic review was to analyze and report the biological properties of FRCs reported in the existing literature. Study selections: A systematic search of four databases (PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane library) was performed to identify all relevant studies published between 1962 and 2019. The search was limited to laboratory-based studies published in English. Citation mining was also performed through cross-referencing of included studies and hand searching of relevant journals. Results: A total of 1283 potentially relevant articles were initially identified, and thirty-three articles were full-text screened. In the final ten studies included for review, four investigated bacterial adhesion and growth abilities on FRCs, four investigated the fibroblastic cytotoxicity of different surface-treated FRCs, and two investigated the osseointegration between bone and FRCs. Owing to the heterogeneity of fiber types, FRC-coating, and lack of standardized testing protocols, a meta-analysis was not feasible. The included studies indicated that glass fibers, and in particular E-glass fibers, are superior to ceramics and other FRCs in terms of bacterial adherence, fibroblast cytotoxicity, and cell viability. Conclusions: Glass-fiber-reinforced composites are cytocompatible materials that possess satisfactory biological properties and can be used in dental prosthesis and craniofacial implants. Further research is necessary to regulate the matrix ion release/degradation of FRCs to prolong the initially demonstrated properties.

``Ma'' is a Japanese word that contains very rich meanings. It is used commonly to refer space, time, and things in between by Japanese. The mutual understanding and agreement of such concept by group individuals is a key to sustain social harmonics. In the past, this concept is primarily discussed in literature/humanity fields, and little in scientific and engineering communities. In this presentation, I will try to offer a few examples (e.g. music appreciation of silence, Japanese comic story-telling, Rakugo) to demonstrate that it is possible to use an interdisciplinary approach to investigate the concept of ``Ma'' scientifically. Furthermore, this may provide a starting point for designers and engineers to device into the interpersonal communication on other abstract concepts.

Unexpectedly, there is not much research on loanwords in Chinese. The references which thispaper has quoted and introduced are the standard and basic materials to be used by those who wantto pursue the problem of loanwords in Chinese. This paper shows there are more loanwords in Chinese than expected. Also, Japan is the source of many Chinese words. These words have intoduced modern Western concepts in China. However, most Chinese are unaware of the foreign source of these words.

The performance measurement scales on logistics and supply chain management can be used not only for benchmarking but also for the strategic formulation. The measurement scales in different scorecards were summarized in four areas, i.e., Logistics Performance (LP), Planning/Execution Capabilities (PE), IT Methods and Implementation (IT), and Corporate Strategy and Inter-Organizational Alignment (SO). Six hypotheses on the relationships among these four areas were proposed. A survey with 177 samples was conducted in Chinese manufacturing and logistics industries to test the hypotheses. A proposed framework suggests that planning/execution capabilities in the strategic formulation should be separated from logistics performance and the operations on the corporate strategy and inter-organization alignment on supply chain should move earlier than the IT methods and implementation.
