It had long been known that uranyl salts have many sharp absorption bands when dissolved in various solvents1), 2). 3). Among these researches, in 1935 and 1939, Shibata et al.4). 5) showed that wave number of absorption hands of uranyl nitrate solution in acetone at lower temperature can be resolved with a general formula based on the theory of diatomic molecule. In this paper, the author wishes to report on the results gained when uranyl nitrate has been dissolved into many other organic solvents under varieties of temperature, for the purpose to examine the correct-ness of that formnla. Solvents used and the ranges of temperature (°C) estimated are as follows: water (ordinary temp.), urethane (<50°), acetamide (85°), methyl alcohol (15° and -70°), ethyl alcohol (15° and -70°), propyl alcohol (15° and -70°), ethyl ether (10° and -70°), ethyl acetate (-67°), methyl lactate (-40°). propyl valeriate (15°), ethyl acetoacetate (10° and -40°), acetophe-none (15°) and benzophenone (60°).
