Local power systems (66kV) are served from the 275kV or 154kV substations. In order to maintain power supply reliability, the transmission lines are connected to several substations, and the operational configuration is radial. Since practical local power system has a number of transmission lines, many configuration candidates occur. It is expected to effectively evaluate these configuration candidates from various viewpoints such as reliability of power supply, transmission loss and so on. In this paper, the authors propose a multi objective evaluation method by using deterministic and probabilistic approaches for local power system configuration. In the proposed multi objective evaluation method, after selecting system configuration candidates which satisfy N-1 security by using an optimization method based on Boolean function, these candidates are evaluated from viewpoints of expected outage time, transmission loss and facility operation rate. In order to check the validity of the proposed method, numerical results are shown for a practical local system model with about 39 × 10<SUP>27</SUP> configuration

The power capacitor and the AC filter are used for the reliable supply of electric power. For the protection of the power capacitor system, the over-load relay must be very accurate, because the operating voltage in power system is nearly the limited level of the power capacitor. For the protection of the AC filter system, the effective value must be detected from the filtercurrent which is mixed of fundamental and harmonics. So, we developed and produced the relay systems using new algorithms, high rate sampling, digital filter, R.M. S. calculation. On this paper, we report the characteristic of the protections and the algorithms.

DC magnetic fields under the Hida-Shinano 200kV DC overhead transmission line were assessed by measurements. The DC magnetic fields observed under the DC overhead transmission line are a superposition of the geomagnetic field and that generated by the DC line current. In this study, the DC magnetic fields generated by the transmission line were obtained by a vector subtraction of the geomagnetic field from the total DC magnetic field. The measured geomagnetic field was 47.1μT and the assessed magnetic fields from the line with a current of 2250A were from 3.8μT to 8.3μT depending on the operating condition of the DC transmission line.

Osaka Gas Co., Ltd., jointly with NTT DATA Mathematical Systems Inc., has developed unit-commitment model for optimizing dispatch of power generation units. Main purpose of this development is to simulate the future world of electric power system in accordance with national energy policy aiming to introduce large amount of renewable energy as well as vitalized cross-border power exchange via PX market to enhance economically-efficient power system operation. The model incorporates not only constraints of supply-demand balance but also constraints of operating reserves, regulation reserves, maximum CO2-emissions, etc.

Intercomparison tests of dividers for lightning impulse measurement were carried out Japan participated by 12 laboratories. Two resistive dividers, one with 300 kV rating and the other with 1 MV rating, were circulated among the laboratories. The comparison test is one of the methods for checking the uncertainty of a high voltage measuring system, and is proposed in the course of the revision of an IEC standard to incorporate a new idea, that is, the traceability of the uncertainty in high voltage measuring systems. This paper reports on the determination of the scale factor, evaluation of the unit step response parameters and the comparison tests with lightning impulse voltages at about 100 kV. It is demonstrated that the participating 12 laboratories are all capable of realizing the idea in the revision of the IEC standard, that is, to establish traceability. On the other hand, a few problems to be solved in the testing procedures are found, to reduce the scatter in the measured parameters in these tests.

Sales of electric vehicle are rapidly growing in worldwide. Vehicle grid integration is important for mitigating impact of charging demand on the distribution feeders, realizing renewable powered charging from the rooftop photovoltaic and wind power generation, and contributing to the Vehicle-to-Grid ancillary services for the power systems. This paper reviews current trends of the vehicle grid integration R&D. Future prospective is also pointed out on the key issues such as an electrical interface, multiple services integration, and the electric vehicle living demonstration for open innovation.

The restrictions of transportation are one of the major parameters for transformer design and affect the available capacity, various characteristics and even reliability. With the progress of increasing power demand, transformer size and weight have been increasing. However, in Japan the restrictions for size and weight in rail and road are strict, and several kinds of technology for transformer construction and transportation method have been developed to meet these requirements.One technology is the disassembled transportation method for transformer. Fortunately we have experienced three type disassembled transportation methods for Kamishiiba power station for approximately 50 years. This paper introduces a history on improvement of disassembled transportation technology and development of large power transformer.

We have developed new vegetable based insulating oil for transformers called PFAE (Palm Fatty Acid Ester). PFAE has 0.6 times less viscosity and 1.3 times higher dielectric constant compared to mineral oil. The oxidative stability, biodegradability and acute toxicity to fish of PFAE has also been determined to be superior to mineral oil. In this paper, in order to optimize the characteristics of fatty acid esters originating from palm oil, several kinds of fatty acid alkyl esters were first synthesized in the laboratory by the molecular design technique and the transesterification from fatty acid methyl esters and alkyl alcohols. Next the electro-chemical characteristics of the fatty acid alkyl esters as insulating oil were analyzed.

Applying a magnetic field to a water electrolyzer is one of the methods to improve energy conversion efficiency from electrical energy to hydrogen energy. In this study, experiments of alkaline water electrolysis with a magnetic field are carried out to elucidate the influence of a magnetic field direction and a magnetic flux density on cell voltage and bubble movement. In the case with B⊥electrode, the cell voltage decreases with the increase in current density and magnetic flux density, because the bubbles are removed from the electrode and the electrolyte is mixed with Lorentz-force. In the case with B∥electrode, the cell voltage is suppressed in low current density conditions. However, in high current density conditions, the bubbles are trapped in the electrolyte and the cell voltage is increased.

Three dimensional magnetohydrodynamic, two-phase flow and electrochemical reaction coupling numerical simulation of alkaline water electrolysis with magnetic field is conducted to estimate and reveal the mechanism of overvoltage suppression with the magnetic field. The numerical results shown that both vertical magnetic field to the electrode and parallel magnetic field to the electrode suppress the overpotential by the mixing of the electrolyte. This mixing is induced by the secondary flow in both cases. The overvoltage suppression is constantly increased with the increase in magnetic flux density in the case with parallel magnetic field, however, that is saturates in the case with vertical magnetic field to the electrode due to the bubble position is changed by the flow.

Power generating characteristics of seed-free linear shaped Faraday type and disk shaped Hall type MHD generators are examined by two-dimensional numerical simulation with changing the inlet ionization degree. A liner shaped Faraday type generator can get stable and high power output at high inlet ionization degree. The net enthalpy extraction ratio, however, is reduced owing to the increase in the required preionization power. At low inlet ionization degree, on the other hand, ionization instability occurs and the enthalpy extraction ratio decreases. A disk shaped Hall type generator can get high net enthalpy extraction ratio even at low inlet ionization degree under a low preionization power. The net enthalpy extraction ratio decreases for an excessive inlet ionization degree because of a strong MHD interaction.

The performance and plasma stability in a high-temperature inert gas plasma MHD generator with a high enthalpy extraction ratio have been simulated numerically. To achieve a high enthalpy extraction ratio, various generator channel lengths and magnetic flux density distributions are examined so as to improve the MHD interaction strength and effective electrical conductivity. It is found that an enthalpy extraction ratio of 30% is reachable for high-temperature inert gas plasma MHD generator, and as being similar to an experimental small-scale generator, steady and homogeneous plasma can be realized at a high inlet total temperature even for a high enthalpy extraction generator with long channel length and shaped magnetic flux density distribution.
