Video editing is used to produce a final version with a specific duration by finding and selecting appropriate shots from the raw video material and connecting them. Video editing process is generally conducted according to the special rules called "video grammar" in order to produce excellent and intelligible videos for broadcasting. However, this editing consumes a lot of human editor's working time. To solve this problem, an efficient and new video editing technique or system is required. The goal of this study is to develop an intelligent support system for video editing based on video grammar. This paper proposes a method of using camerawork density, camerawork instability, and cut point parameters to automatically segment the raw video materials into useful sections and useless sections. The method is based on video grammar as a part of the video editing support system.

We aim to develop a video-shooting learning system using video grammar and a real-time, on- and offline navigation system. As an initial step, we have developed an online navigation system that uses video grammar for evaluating users' high-speed camerawork to assist them with effectively shooting shots that can be easily edited. Previous camerawork analysis results showed that by classifying each frame into one of seven camerawork types, high-speed processing accuracy is improved. The system issues three types of alarms depending on the camerawork and the video grammar while a user is shooting that guide the user toward a specified shot. Users thus can naturally acquire a shooting style by trying to decrease the number of alarms and can obtain the specified shot without having to consider the video grammar.

Tracking objects at a distance is a problem in wide area surveillance. This paper introduces a realtime active vision system that can track a moving object from 1 to 200 meters. This visual servo system is mainly structured with three mechanical freedoms: pan, tilt and zoom. An eagle eye mechanism is proposed to obtain a wide field of view and high resolution on the target. A fusion scheme has also been developed that combines the results of the three separate zoom cameras to detect and track remote targets. A high performance pan-tilt unit and an algorithm of high frequency motor control are proposed to achieve smooth tracking. The experiments of tracking a person walking outdoors and indoors have been carried out. The results show that this system is valid for tracking in a wide area.

AVC/H.264に次ぐ新しい国際標準映像符号化方式を策定するプロジェクトHEVCの最新状況を報告する.HEVCはISOとITU-Tの共同作業として,2013年初頭の規格化完了を目指している.本稿では執筆時点での最新情報に基づき,HEVC標準の候補となっている技術の概要と活動状況について概説する.

本来見ることのできない音を可視化する手法に関して,これまで行われてきた技術とあわせて,新しい取組みについて紹介した.例として,マイクアレイによる指向性制御および音響ホログラフィを用いた音源探査,またインパルス応答から算出した音響インテンシティとパノラマ写真を組合せた反射音の可視化手法に関して実測例をもとに解説している.

We have developed a single-chip HDTV encoder LSI for H.264/AVC High422P@L4.1 that is optimized for broadcasting transport systems. Significant bit-rate reduction around 50% or more relative to MPEG-2 can be achieved by originally developed motion vector coding algorithm and subjective quality enhancement through adaptive bit allocation considering human visual system. It also enables low-delay encoder implementation with at shortest 50ms encoding delay, with advanced coding control that optimizes the balance of buffering delay and coded image quality as well as variable delay time control mechanism. We adopt a hierarchical multi-CPU framework and CPU interface those enable flexible encoder control per GOP/Picture/MB, to realize various image quality and encoding delay adjustments. This LSI is fabricated in a 90-nm CMOS process and can be integrated in a 9x9 mm<sup>2</sup> chip.

Character recognition from Video camera images is necessary, because digital video cameras have gained in popularity. In this paper, we propose a new method of extracting four directional features. The characteristic of our method is to use dynamic scenes. This is achieved by using images shifted by half a pixel in the low resolution. We experimented with character recognition using the common database ETL2. We calculated the center of gravity or the camera image in order to apply our method in practice. We also experimented with character recognition using images takeen by a video camera. The recognition results show that our method is effective at low resolution.
